L’Humanité avant le Déluge 2024 — Vincent Ruiz @vincent__ruiz07

“Humanity Before the Flood.”
Almost sounds like the title of a chapter from an apocalyptic novel.

But inside the bottle, there’s nothing dark or heavy. This is Grenache Blanc, grown at around 450m elevation on a clay-and-limestone plateau in southern Ardèche.

Vincent Ruiz is a winemaker from Ardèche, and this wine feels like a pretty good introduction to his philosophy: less about imposing a style, more about preserving a place.

White flowers, pear, yellow apple, citrus zest, a touch of Mediterranean herbs and that subtle stony minerality.

Spontaneous fermentation, around 10 months on the lees in concrete egg-shaped tanks, and very little intervention.

The result feels alive, precise and completely unforced.
