A selection of objects from Lobmeyr’s historic collection is currently on view at The Metropolitan Museum of Art @metmuseum in New York as part of the exhibition Orientalism: Between Fact and Fantasy.

Created during the nineteenth century, these works embody a moment when European decorative arts were profoundly inspired by the craftsmanship, ornament, and visual language of the Islamic world. The exhibition traces this remarkable cultural exchange and its enduring influence on art and design an artistic dialogue that continues to resonate until today.

World Class 2026 is officially over for me on the competition side.

After a couple of intense days in Rotterdam, congratulations to @yanniks_ for taking home the title and representing Austria this year. Well deserved!
It was more than a pleasure to share my drinks with the judges across all three challenges.

⚓ Johnnie Walker Black Label – Port of Rotterdam Challenge I took a risk with a combination of lobster distillate and sea buckthorn, presenting it to @chloemerz and @timdphilips .

🫖 Singleton Simplexi-Tea Challenge A cocktail built around Earl Grey tea, milk, shortbread cookies, and Singleton 12, presented to @eleninikoloulia and @dennistamse .

🍸 Ketel One Market Challenge Probably the most fun—and definitely the most chaotic—challenge, where I presented my Martini twist to @tessposthumus and @felice_spiritssommelier .

A huge thank you to everyone who supported me throughout every stage of this year’s World Class journey.
Special thanks to @charles_tanq (aka Mr. Wild Toucan) and @vera.diageo for being our incredible chaperones and helping us prepare for the finals, both before we arrived and throughout the competition.
To our bar captain @michael.john.s —thank you for being there before every presentation, helping me settle my nerves and step onto that stage with confidence.

🎶 Austrian craftsmanship connects worlds – from Vienna to New York and all the way to Fukuoka! 🇦🇹✨

These magnificent chandeliers in the ACROS Symphony Hall connect Fukuoka with Vienna and the Metropolitan Opera in New York: It all began with Hans Harald Rath's iconic designs made for J. & L. LOBMEYR and created for the Met in 1966. Rath presented his design – inspired by distant galaxies and the first actual space photos—as a prototype made of potatoes and toothpicks. Simply brilliant!

The chandeliers were a gift from the Republic of Austria to the USA, as a visible thank you for the economic support through the Marshall Plan after World War II.

Thirty years on, Rath's chandeliers were installed in Fukuoka's Symphony Hall. While the New York chandeliers magically float upwards out of sight before a performance, the crystal art pieces in Fukuoka function as an integral part of the room's acoustics, reflecting the sound of our voices. As a special treat, the managers lowered the galactic chandeliers for us, so we were literally able to touch the sound. A synaesthetic privilege. 🎤🇯🇵🙏
