Today is World Mental Health Day, and if there's anything that this year has taught me, it's that your mental health is incredibly important.

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with a Macro Prolactinoma, which in non medical terms, is a non cancerous tumor that grows on the pituitary gland in your brain and messes with everything to do with your hormones, emotions and anything in-between. It was shocking news and meant a long road of recovery involving semi regular hospital visits, the odd MRI and my entire brain effectively trying to rewire itself.

This news made me really think about life and made me grateful for the people I have around me, but also made me realise I shouldn't take for granted what I've got around me. So I decided to start going to more gigs, reading more material on mental health and trying my best to really take care of myself by going out with friends and enjoying nature. There's still a long way to go, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

I've been incredibly lucky to have a great support system and have people around me that I can talk too. But not everybody has that, and unfortunately we live in a world where a large group of individuals believe mental health isn't real and is just another label, but that's not true. It affects all of us, and everybody deals with it differently. But the one important thing to note is that YOU ARE NEVER ALONE. There will always be somebody to talk too, somebody who listens, and if you feel like you don't have that, my DM's are always open, I will happily make you feel seen, feel heard, or just distract you.

But also there are some incredibly awesome organisations out there who provide support, materials, or somebody to talk to such as Mind, Samaritans, CALM and even local organisations such as Heads Above The Waves. Someone will listen, someone is always there for you, and it's not embarrassing to reach out.

I've been there, multiple times, and I've called those numbers, I've listened to the advice, I've read the material and trust me, it does help.

Self Love is Punk Rock, it's also really cool and you should always try your absolute best to take care of yourself if you can.

Love you all ❤️ by @localmusickane

The world is currently filled with a lot of negativity and anger towards things that rightfully need it, however I know how sometimes that can really overtake the feed and cause the big sadness to activate in a few of us. So please take this post as a way to cleanse your feed and activate some of that sweet sweet dopamine.

This is Stitch. He's our lovely 5 year old cat, who we've had since he was just a baby at 8 weeks old. He's chatty, very particular and has many seasonal residencies across the house that he frequents (his favourite currently, being our coffee table), and is the first cat I've ever owned that doesn't like fish.

Ohana not only means family to him, it also means world domination. by @localmusickane

September was certainly a challenging month but the gigs were great, the sky was beautiful and the people were awesome 🫶 by @localmusickane

Great to get out and about this past month. A fair few gigs and loads of walking, some good times all round! by @localmusickane

It's been a while since I actually posted on this grid and it wasn't a Collaboration thing so I thought I'd change that with a few cool photos. More importantly I just felt like sharing my thoughts as this month was quite a busy one, and we've still got a few days to go.

I think the biggest thing that happened this month was my departure from Bro Radio. A place that I've been lucky to basically call my second home from the minute I came to Wales in 2018 (minus the two years between 2021 & 2023 where I took a break to deal with life), I honestly owe a large portion of my career to Nathan and the team who took a chance on me and allowed me to yap your ear off about the amazing South Wales music scene.

After my departure I've decided to focus on life and my health more importantly. I won't get into the nitty gritty, but let's just say the NHS is really fucking cool and I'm not dying, so that's a plus.

But this heatwave and good sun has meant I could take advantage of the great beautiful outdoors and spend time really enjoying what the world has to offer (and by the world, I mean anywhere that a Cardiff bus can take me for under £10, which isn't that far but still)

So enjoy some photos I took of the outdoors, plus a few from when I saw Bowling For Soup, one of Hensol Castle when I went to some guy's wedding, and some of Stitch, because it's simply the law to include my cat in any Instagram post I do.

Much love and all that, and sorry for all the story spam, I don't plan on stopping.

See you at Christmas probably. by @localmusickane

As Volunteers Week comes to a close, I like to take this time to do a small post talking about my time as a volunteer in Community Radio.

It's a little crazy to think that this is my 8th year as a volunteer for @broradio and during that time I've been incredibly lucky to be a part of an amazing team of individuals who all love what they do, providing great tunes, local information and all round joy to the Vale of Glamorgan.

I originally was only meant to be at Bro Radio for two weeks, joining as a part of a work experience programme to help me achieve my Princes Trust certificate, yet somehow I'm still here, and like a bad smell I don't think I'm going anytime soon.

During my time I've been lucky enough to help showcase some of the best Local talent from South Wales with the Local Music Playlist, this has really helped amplify my love for music and I've loved every moment of it, from spending my nights listening to countless submissions, to attending gigs and making some wonderful friends within the industry.

I've also been lucky to help showcase some amazing individuals with our Bro Radio Community Awards, something that has just grown over the years, and I believe this year was our best year yet.

I love what I do, I enjoy volunteering my time to help keep the people of the Vale of Glamorgan entertained, and if you told me 8 years ago when I joined that I'd still be here with a Community Radio Award under my belt and a love for Local Music, I honestly wouldn't believe you. by @localmusickane
