When David moved to South Carolina in early 2025, he didn’t know a single person here. He’d already closed 13 deals in North Carolina, but in SC he was starting from zero. No sphere, no referrals, no local name recognition.
He joined Adam Taylor & Team in late February 2025. Since then, he’s closed 16 transactions in SC and 4 in NC, a 53.83% increase.
David came in with a history degree, experience at a real estate law firm, and a background running a rehab company. But as he puts it, none of that comes with a phone full of local contacts. Building a name from scratch while learning SC contracts and regulations, and making the jump from solo agent to team, was humbling.
What changed? He went from fear of the unknown to walking confidently into any situation. If it’s something he hasn’t seen before, someone on the team has. The support and proven systems behind him make that possible.
“I moved here not knowing anyone, and this team gave me a place to belong while I built something.”
Now David gets to help people buy and sell homes during some of the most important moments of their lives, right here in the Upstate communities whose history he loves sharing.
We’re so proud to have you on the team, David. by @localrealtorian

Uptown in minutes. The lake by lunch. 🏡

1007 Northside Dr. E just hit the market in Greenwood. It’s a 1962 brick ranch on more than two-thirds of an acre, carefully restored inside and out, right down to the fresh mulch and flower beds out front. Uptown is a short drive for dinner or a local beer, and Lake Greenwood is close enough for an afternoon on the water.

🛏️ 3 bedrooms, all on the main level
🛁 1.5 baths, both redone
🍳 New kitchen with island, granite and new appliances
🌳 0.69 acres with a fenced backyard and storage building
🏷️ $235,000 and USDA eligible

Local pick: Good Times Brewing on Maxwell Ave brews its beer on site and serves pizza from its sister spot, The Mill House. Go on a live music or trivia night.

History nugget: Francis Salvador settled near Coronaca in 1774. Two years later he became the first Jewish person to die for American independence.

Lake day or Uptown night: how would you spend your first Saturday here? 👇

The Widest Main Street: The Story of Greenwood, SC 🚂

Long before Greenwood, this area sat along the Cherokee Path, a major trade route linking Charleston to the Cherokee towns. It ran right through Ninety Six, named by Charleston traders who guessed it was 96 miles from there to the Cherokee town of Keowee.

In 1775 Ninety Six saw the first land battle south of New England. In 1776 the Cherokee, encouraged by the British, raided frontier settlements, and Patriot forces burned Cherokee towns in return. In 1777 the Cherokee gave up almost all their land in South Carolina. In 1781 Nathanael Greene besieged the Star Fort there for nearly a month, the longest field siege of the war.

In 1823 John McGehee built a summer house out here, and his wife named it Green Wood. The nearby village of Woodville officially became Greenwood in 1850.

In the 1840s, local leaders bought railroad stock to bring the Columbia to Greenville line through town. It opened in 1852 as the “Swamp Rabbit Route,” and the business district moved half a mile to sit by the depot. Greenwood was incorporated in 1857.

More railroads followed, and the middle of town became a rail yard. All those tracks are why Greenwood is said to have the widest main street in the country, with about 490 feet once separating its two sides.

In 1890 William Durst opened the Greenwood Cotton Mill, and textiles took off. Greenwood became a county seat in 1897, and the Oregon Hotel, granite storefronts, power, water, and phone service soon followed. In 1904 the college that became Lander University opened here.

As rail travel declined, the tracks came out, and the last Swamp Rabbit train ran in 1982. The city reworked Uptown with greenery, brick sidewalks, the Uptown Market, and the Heritage Trail on old rail beds.

Today Uptown is a state-recognized cultural district with the Festival of Flowers, the Festival of Discovery, an arts center, theater, and a railroad museum, all on a Main Street built wide for trains and kept wide for people.

Not bad for a town that started as one family’s summer escape.

Greenwood has more going on than you’d guess. 🌳

Uptown is walkable, with new shops and locally owned restaurants. Lake Greenwood covers more than 11,000 acres of water, there are seven golf courses, and a Revolutionary War battlefield sits just up the road. In between, there is still room to spread out.

I have three tracts available off US Hwy 178:

📍 10.22 +/- acres | $122,640
📍 22.05 +/- acres | $209,475
📍 43.01 +/- acres | $344,080
🏡 Greenwood County RDD zoning
🤝 Owner financing available
➕ Seller is open to combining tracts

Local pick: grab a pizza at The Mill House in Uptown, then walk the Star Fort at Ninety Six National Historic Site. In 1781, Gen. Nathanael Greene held the longest field siege of the Revolution there.

What would you do with 43 +/- acres in Greenwood?

Grover, North Carolina is named after a president who got married in the White House.

And for a while, the town wasn’t even in North Carolina!

Long before there was a state line here, this was Catawba and Cherokee country, with the land around Kings Mountain as shared hunting ground.

By the mid 1700s, settlers were moving in. One of them was Frederick Hambright, a German immigrant who landed in Philadelphia in 1738.

In 1780, the Shiloh Presbyterian congregation organized, and its cemetery is still here. It straddles the state line with 104 gravestones in North Carolina and 4 in South Carolina!

That October, Major Patrick Ferguson and his Tory force camped near here. Two days later, Ferguson was dead, killed in the British defeat at Kings Mountain. He was the only British soldier there, as everyone else was American! Hambright took a rifle ball to the thigh in that same fight and refused to leave his saddle until it was over. He’s buried at Old Shiloh today. In January 1781, Lord Cornwallis crossed into North Carolina right here, chasing Daniel Morgan and Nathanael Greene.

The town started out as Whitaker, on the South Carolina side of the line. The railroad made it a real town, and as it grew, it spread north across the line. In 1885 the post office moved to the North Carolina side, but North Carolina already had a Whitaker. So the town took a new name in honor of the brand new president, Grover Cleveland.

A year later, Cleveland married Frances Folsom in the White House, the only president ever married there.

And no, Cleveland County is not named for him. It’s named for Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, another Kings Mountain hero.

Today Grover is home to about 800 people, and the restored homes on Cleveland Avenue are known as Gingerbread Row. One of them is the mansion the Hambright family built in 1879. Today it’s the Inn of the Patriots, a bed and breakfast and presidential culinary museum owned by my friend, Martin Mongiello, a former White House chef. He’s also the man who taught me the Presidential Pizza recipe! 🍕
