Al James ( @aljames ) has never been one to chase the spotlight—yet somehow, it’s the spotlight that keeps finding him.

From underground roots to sold-out arenas, he built his name on verses that speak to both the grit of the streets and the softness of memory. What began as late-night cyphers with friends has since grown into anthems that defined a generation of listeners, with each track carrying that signature laid-back flow and honesty only he can deliver. Beyond the millions of streams and the cultural weight his songs now hold, Al James remains grounded, drawing from real stories, real people, and real places.

As the third of three covers for #TheMusicIssue, Al James opens up about legacy, loyalty, and crafting music that stays with you long after the last note fades.
