Well… this one hurts. 😞 especially on my birthday weekend..We’ve all heard the saying: “Buy the card, not the story.” Unfortunately, I had to learn that lesson the hard way.I recently picked up what I believed were some incredible Pokémon hits… only to find out they were counterfeit/fake cards. It definitely stings, as a small business owner, collector, but hurts financially the worst… I’ll make bad calls on certain cards by buying to high or selling too soon, but never thought this stuff would happen to me.Thankfully, I caught it before passing them along to someone else. That’s one thing I’ll always stand behind—if I discover something isn’t authentic, it will never make it into someone else’s collection, I’ll destroy every single one of them. This is a reminder to everyone in the hobby:* 🔍 Inspect cards carefully.* 🤝 Buy from people you trust.* 📚 Keep learning how to spot fakes.* 💬 If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.Even after years in the hobby, it can happen to anyone. Consider this an expensive lesson, but one I’ll learn from and make a come back from. What a weekend… ❤️Over the past few days, Christy and I packed up LockerRoom765 and made the trip from Lafayette, Indiana to Columbus, Ohio for the 1st ever (but many to come) Columbus Card Fest that was thrown by the 2 best guys ever. Ryan @cardcollector2 and Brad @bee_sports - and it was amazingFrom crossing into Ohio, exploring downtown, finding some amazing local food with @echeloncardz on Thursday night and then @traderivercards on Friday night, to spending time together with Christy before the doors opened… to standing behind our booth surrounded by thousands of collectors from all over the country—it was an experience we’ll never forget.The show itself was incredible.The crowds were nonstop, the hobby is so alive, and we had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people, from big companies that I have used and never had a chance to ever talk to or meet… like @hitparadecollection @checkoutmycards and @hobbyhub.us Whether you stopped by to buy a card, trade, talk sports, or simply introduce yourself, thank you. Every conversation reminded us why we started LockerRoom765 in the first place.Running a small business isn’t always easy. There are late nights, long drives, heavy cases to move, and plenty of uncertainty. But weekends like this make every bit of it worth it.A huge thank you to everyone who supported us this weekend, to the organizers of Columbus Card Fest for putting together such an incredible event, and especially to my beautiful wife Christy for being right there beside me every step of the way. One of the coolest moments from the Columbus Card Fest #CCF2026 happened after the show ended.A young collector picked up one of our FREE Kids Packs at the show, but didn’t open it until he got home… and wouldn’t you know it; Inside was one of our “You Win!” cards.So on the way home his dad reached out through our website, explaining that his son was disappointed he had missed the chance to redeem it at the show.There was only one answer…No email needed, no debating this….. text him back while driving!!!Absolutely we’ll make it right.I asked who his favorite team and player were, and this week a package full of cards is heading his way.What meant even more than the prize was what his dad told me:“Both my boys had a blast looking at your cards and going to their first card show.”and later…“I’m glad my boys have picked up the hobby—it gives us lots to share and talk about.”Those words are worth more than any card The hobby doesn’t grow because of the biggest hits or the most expensive cards.It grows because kids leave their first card show smiling… excited to collect… and making memories with their parents and friends. Taking pictures with their favorite shop owners and just hanging out.That’s exactly what LockerRoom765 is about.Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table this weekend. What an incredible weekend at Columbus Card Fest! 🏈⚾🏀After a long few days, we’re finally back home, unpacking, catching our breath, and reflecting on an amazing experience.First and foremost, thank you to everyone who stopped by our tables. Whether you bought a card, traded, shared stories, or simply introduced yourself, we truly appreciate every conversation and every bit of support. It’s people like you that make this hobby so special.We met a lot of great collectors, made some new friends, picked up some awesome inventory (including a few cards I couldn’t pass up 😅), and had the opportunity to showcase everything from sports cards to Pokémon, Marvel, and other collectibles.Every show is another opportunity to learn, improve, and grow LockerRoom765, and this weekend was no exception. And poooooffffYour laptop has apparently reset itself back to 2023 when I got it, and all files, everything is gone and the day before I leave for the biggest card show I have the privilege to be part of… ohhh man this is gonna be fun! All my spreadsheets, business docs, ledgers, copies of receipts, pictures…. Everything…. Well if this doesn’t break me nothing will ever at this point.
