The McLaren 720S was the highest achievement of car for me when a friend of mine first bought his in 2017. Having lived with this car for 5 months now, the smiles continue and the conversations with my supercar friends are always "what's next?" And the answer for all of us is: once you've owned a 720S/750S, everything else is a downgrade or a lateral move. You'd need to jump into a totally different category and price of supercar (i.e. Revuelto), to achieve a transition that isn't too lateral. Every 720/750/765LT owner admits it too. This car ruins other cars.

Thus far, every supercar I've owned and sold has been met with an upgrade: Audi R8 to McLaren 570S to Artura & Ferrari 458 together, and now the 720S. I miss nothing about my old cars, because the 720S just does it all perfectly. by @locking_diff

Luxury Choices @luxury_choices got the Vorsteiners on the 720S paired to Michelin PS4S rubber bands. These wheels have lived on my 570S, Artura, and now the 720S. 3 years ago Luxury Choices powdercoated and restored these wheels after I bought them used for $2K! Today, they still look like the $8000 wheels they were when new.

It looks like all the predictions about Ferrari SF90s crashing into the low 300s by the end of the year are wrong. Dead wrong. These 3 SF90s are the cheapest I found on CarFax with clean histories and good mileage. A few months ago I saw some in the higher $300,000 range, but it looks like those are yesterday's prices. Original MSRP on 2021 and 2022 cars was $520,000. Some were insanely spec'd and many COVID cars sold for waaay over sticker.

In that respect, depreciation has hit these cars by as much as 50%. But if you were one of the few who didn't pay an enormous markup and spec'd your car wisely, you're alright. To be fair, I drove a friend's SF90 and it impressed me way more than I thought it would. It's really, really good. With Ferrari now offering 8 year battery warranties, they will also replace the high voltage battery as the warranty expires (yes, no questions asked, even if it works fine), there is a level of reassurance for the SF90 customer.

So this is the Ferrari SF90 market at a quick glance. The sub-$400K cars are gone as of this moment. This and the Revuelto are on my short list of future cars. by @locking_diff

This Ferrari 458 belonged to someone I know and it sold for $385,000, down from its initial asking of $4250,000 just a few weeks ago. It didn't take too long to sell and I suggested my friend keep an eye to see if the car comes back up for sale. 2 weeks later, it did. The problem is the buyer presented themselves as an individual and it turned out to be yet another flipper. This 458 Italia was never registered to the buyer and the car is now for sale at Fort Lauderdale Collection. Not sure if they were in on it or not. But why would someone take a gamble on a $385K purchase to flip it for $425K or even less? Margin is way too thin and the 458 market is showing signs of slowing down, but it seems as if people are still insisting on keeping the manipulation going even if it means smaller margins by buying and relisting the car at another dealer 2 weeks later.

Again, 21,000 were produced. Buy it and drive it. by @locking_diff

The E92 BMW M3 is arguably the single best, most unique, best looking, finest aging BMW M3 ever made. All E90 and E92 M3s have appreciated in value in the last 5 years, but if you have a Lime Rock car that you bought at the plateau of the depreciation curve, you're looking at huge gains. I owned an E92 M3 for over 3 years that I bought for $21,000 with 62K miles, and sold it for $37,000. Today, inventory for E9x M3s is very dry on public websites, and most specs for sale are super bland limited to mostly dark colors or white.

If you have a car with sunroof, you're looking at worse resale. Carbon roof is highly preferable, as is Competition package, and brighter colors are always a huge win. Sedans are the rarest by a country mile, but imo not as pretty as the coupe. Here's a random assortment of cars I saw. All of these cars would be about $30k-$50k cheaper 3 years ago. The only M3 with an insane high revving S65 V8 and the first with a dual clutch, the E92 is the greatest M3 of all time and a bonafide collector car. by @locking_diff

In early 2025 my 2017 570S sold for $138K. Almost 2 years later, that hasn't budged. Are we looking at the single best bargain supercar? I remember selling my 2017 McLaren 570S for $130,000 about 2 years ago, with 20k miles, clean history, in beautiful condition. The car was sold by the dealer within 5 days for $138,000. 2 years later, you'd expect the prices of a similarly spec'd 570S to be low-100s, but that's just not the case. Low 100s gets you a pretty high mileage car (slide 3) or salvage title. It's somewhat slim pickens out there too, bright colors are harder to find.

The McLaren 570S may have found its floor in the supercar market as the absolute best bargain out there. The prices have stayed very strong on them this entire time, and if you can't swing a 720S and the 650S is perhaps a bit old for you, the 570S is where you wanna be. I owned mine for 3 years from 2022-2025, and it never once gave me an issue. by @locking_diff

If you bought a Maserati MC20 back in 2022, chances are your local Maserati dealer made you pay over sticker, especially if the dealer was also a Ferrari dealer. Base MSRPs of Maserati MC20s were $220,000, options added up quick, and after dealer markup back in 2022, you were looking over $300,000. Depreciation absolutely smashed these MC20s, making them cheaper than a certain 20 year old Italian supercar.

However, a few things off the bat, and a very unpopular opinion: these are actually GOOD driver's cars. The engines are maybe underwhelming, but they look beautiful, the doors open in the right direction, they handle well, the suspension is terrific, and the interiors are relatively nice.

If you are looking for an entry level supercar to enjoy, the MC20 does the job and to some people, might be preferable over other supercars, since many are sold as CPOs. Do I expect them to go down more? Yes. Do I expect the depreciation rate to be drastic and fast? Not really. You could buy one for $160,000 today and likely sell it in 3 years for around $120K-130K, costing you only $850-1100 a month for a modern supercar. by @locking_diff

Just one week after posting considerable price drops on listings and the potential of McLaren Sennas selling for just under $2M, we have this DuPont auction where a 2019 Senna sold for $2.7M after all fees. That is a massive number, and no doubt will propel other units up. It will likely erase the price drops made over the last few weeks, as well.

If you have the details on this specific spec, share it below. by @locking_diff
