Lodi’s historic vineyards produce some truly special wines, each with a story worth sharing. At the Lodi Wine Visitor Center, you can explore old vine wines through our rotating tasting selection and discover bottles to take home, including wines from producers without a local tasting room.

There's more to Lodi than Zinfandel 🍇

With more than 130 grape varieties planted across the region, Lodi growers have spent decades working with Mediterranean and Iberian grapes that thrive in our warm days and cool nights.

A few you can taste right here, right now at the Visitor Center:
🍋 Albariño: bright acidity, citrus, stone fruit
🌼 Vermentino: lemon-lime, spring flowers, crisp finish
🍒 Cinsaut: juicy red fruit with clove and black pepper
🌹 Carignane: black cherry, violet, from vines over 100 years old
🍓 Tempranillo: cherry, raspberry, gentle earthiness
🫐 Mourvèdre: dark berry, cassis, earthy depth

The Lodi Wine Visitor Center will be closed for public tasting tomorrow, Saturday, May 2, as we take part in a special community event.

We’ll reopen for our regular hours on Sunday, May 3, from 10:00am–5:00pm.

If you’re looking for something to enjoy tomorrow, we invite you to join us at American Fare (11:30am–2:00pm) – an inaugural event bringing together Lodi winemakers, local chefs, growers, and artisans for an afternoon rooted in the flavors of our region.

Poppy & Yarrow are back in the vineyard. 🦉

Our resident barn owl pair has once again chosen the Demonstration Vineyard at the Lodi Wine Visitor Center as their seasonal nesting home.

Barn owls are an important part of vineyard ecology, helping naturally manage rodent populations. Just one of the many ways nature and farming work hand in hand here in Lodi wine country.

This is a seasonal moment. By late spring/early summer, the chicks will be ready to leave the nest and begin life on their own.

🦉 Get a closer look while you can:
A live nest cam is now streaming (link in bio), generously provided by Lauren M. Jackson, M.Sc. candidate at Cal Poly Humboldt.

🍷 And if you’re planning a visit, now is the perfect time to stop by the Visitor Center and explore the vineyard while the nest is still active.

POV: You catch someone getting a little too hands-on with your bins full of grapes! 🍇 
The bubbles don’t lie - fermentation is happening! But Paul, those weren’t YOUR bins... 
Quick wine lesson: During fermentation, we do “punchdowns” to push the grape skins back down into the juice. This extracts color, tannins, and flavor from the skins. The bubbles you see? That’s CO2 being released as the yeast converts sugar to alcohol ✨ 
Nathan’s pitchfork skills though? 10/10 for vineyard security 😂

✨ An Ode to Our Feathered Friends ✨

For the past 3 months, our Demonstration Vineyard was graced by a family of six barn owls – mom, dad, and their 4 adorable chicks. Nestled in their cozy owl box just outside the tasting room, they became our daily inspiration. Now that the chicks have taken flight, we’re feeling a bit empty-nested. But we’re so grateful for the time we shared and the natural pest control they provided.

🦉 Fun Fact: A single barn owl family can consume over 3,000 rodents each year!

As we bid farewell to our feathery tenants, we’re reminded of the beauty of nature and the importance of sustainable farming practices. Here’s to more owl families finding their way to our vineyard in the future!

A special thank you to Cal Poly Humboldt Barn Owls and Lauren Jackson for providing us with this unique educational experience!

All owls are handled by trained professionals with permits and IACUC approval.

Join Dr. Matt Johnson and Lauren Jackson of Cal Poly Humboldt Barn Owl Research Team at the Lodi Wine Visitor Center Demo Vineyard for an educational demonstration and naming celebration for the chicks of barn owls Poppy and Yarrow!

Learn about the importance of barn owls in agricultural systems, watch as the barn owl chicks are carefully measured and banded, and cast your vote for the names of the baby chicks! Open to all ages. No RSVP required.
