ONE CHRISTMAS EVE AT EVERGREEN MALL

Ever wish the play ALMOST, MAINE had a holiday version? Well wish no more! ONE CHRISTMAS EVE… follows a format similar to MAINE where the action takes in a mall on Christmas Eve during the last few shopping hours. It spans 10 scenes, all with their own little mini plots. But unlike MAINE, some of the characters do have a through line through the entire piece. With four playwrights contributing to the scenes, the piece has some tone and pacing issues, but, it would be a great community theatre/high school piece as you can do this with 6 or up to 20+ performers. Audiences will love it for the approachable humor and wholesome Christmas message.

And just to be clear this piece has nothing to do with MAINE, nor shares any playwrights. They’re just very similar in presentation. by @loehrke

WELL

(Finally have some time to read scripts again!)

This is a fascinating play. The playwright takes the 4th wall smashes it, rebuilds it, throws it away and yet somehow it works. The playwright is known for making solo performance pieces, and this is an attempt of making a solo performance with a cast, but still feel like a solo performance, but it’s still a play at the end of the day. Yes you read that right. Characters jump back-and-forth from being their real life offstage self, to the character they’re playing on stage. It gets a bit mind melting at times but it’s also quite fun too. This took me a little bit to get through, not because of the content (great writting), but just trying to visualize how it’s being staged and what it’s trying to say. It’s a great read! A lot of great monologues in here for female presenting performers! by @loehrke
