During my final days in Mexico before returning to Fairy I stumbled upon these tents by a government building in central Oaxaca. It was an ongoing hunger strike started by just a few locals with the intent to protect 1500 trees on the outskirts of town that were set be cut in the near future.

I stopped there and talked to one of the forest defenders for an hour as many people came up to show support and share their concern. The protest was only some days old but clearly support was growing.

As seen in the news on Nov. 1 the Oaxacan government decided (due to public pressure and environmental concern) to redesign the city's expansion plan to preserve all 1500 trees, as well as to begin the reforestation of nearly 30,000, a huge win!

Change can start with just a few dedicated people. Why sit back and let our people, our land, our water be taken advantage of just because it might be uncomfortable to put ourselves out there and do something about it.. We at wet'suwet'en, at Fairy Creek, ARE making change right now.. We have so much more power as people than many want to believe. We have less than 50 people on the road defending at Fairy many days right now and still we are making a difference. Imagine what we could do if everyone who liked the FCB Instagram posts came for a visit..

Many of you reading this have been up there I know but if you haven't and this is something you care about, give it a go! Come to camp! We would very much love to have you! It's not that scary, not that uncomfortable, but if it is it's for the best reason and will just help us grow taken in Oaxaca Centro by @logan.yellow
