One of the most challenging days I’ve witnessed in Puerto.

Massive sets, brutal currents, endless whitewater, and almost no clean water to be found. Positioning was nearly impossible. It felt like one of those days where you only get one chance, and if it comes, you have to commit completely.

Respect to Axel Medina, Tom Lowe, and Logan Kamen for finding their moments in conditions that were as intimidating as they were historic.

As a photographer, I left feeling like I could have done better. The distance, the haze, and a few bad decisions behind the lens kept me from capturing the images I know were out there.

But every difficult day leaves a lesson.

The surfers paid the price. The ocean demanded everything.

Thankfully, everyone made it home safely.

Uno de los días más difíciles que me ha tocado presenciar en Puerto.

Series enormes, corrientes fuera de control, espuma por todos lados y casi nada de agua limpia. Posicionarse era casi imposible. De esos días donde solo tienes una oportunidad y debes aprovecharla al máximo.

Mis respetos para Axel Medina, Tom Lowe y Logan Kamen por encontrar sus momentos en condiciones tan intimidantes como históricas.

Como fotógrafo, me fui con la sensación de que pude hacerlo mejor. La distancia, la bruma y algunas malas decisiones detrás de la cámara me impidieron capturar imágenes que realmente hicieran justicia a lo que ocurrió ahí afuera.

Pero cada día difícil deja una lección.

Los surfers pagaron el precio. El océano exigió todo.

Getting ready to head back home has my brain replaying December 18th, 2023. The day I lucked into this wave. I have heard talk of this day being the biggest surf-able waves New Jersey has seen since Hurricane Gloria, September 1985 or even Hurricane Bell, August 1976. Wild to think! All I know is that it was an incredible experience to see New Jersey hold that much water. I am very grateful to call this place home.

Film update:

Since we’ve last talked, I have successfully pulled off a few huge strike missions. From Kelly Slater’s wave pool to feeling undergunned on my 9’8 Padillac and just about everything in between. I am currently sitting on my best/most diverse work yet, I am very proud of it. Holding onto clips is probably not the best decision in this day and age as social media has become a major outlet for our industry. There’s new clips online everyday and films get forgotten about within hours. However, creating this project has been my CT qualification or title campaign. This has been my best experience yet and I am excited to share it with you.

It’s quite difficult to capture this last week in images or even words, but I am very happy to be alive 😂

I’ve spent the last few days with family going through the photos and telling stories. Feeling grateful for the opportunity to put my name in the hat. I owe a lot of thank yous from this last week, you all know who you are. Really does take a village. 🙏🤍

The come down from this “high” is something I haven’t experienced before. It took a few nights of sleep for the adrenaline to subside. I plan to celebrate until the new year. My short film is slowly coming together and has become something I am proud to share it with you.

Much love to Maui and all of its people. Especially @mattmeola, don’t think I would have gotten a decent wave without you. Thank you to Pe’ahi for my first session 🤍

I’ve been lucky enough to be a part of a few of these “historic” or “significant” swells over the years. I’ve learned a few things. Something along the lines of being present, it takes a village and to document every moment. Maybe a few other things as well but I won’t bore ya.

I typically wouldn’t share something like this but I’m getting older and it’s pretty cool to look back on moments like these.

I owe a few thank you’s.
