Theodore James Batrićević was born on September 17th at 5:53 am. During our third trimester my husband and I were faced with devastating news as we were told that our sweet son had a severe heart defect called hypo plastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) which means the left side of his heart is severely underdeveloped. Most doctors recommended a medical termination. I however couldn’t go through with that which led us to two options, comfort care / hospice or a series of three aggressive open heart surgeries with still no cure. My husband and I had made the heart wrenching decision to go the comfort care and give him as much love as possible while he would still be here on this earth. I had a 36 hour labor and ended up pushing for 2 hours and when I laid my eyes on my son Theodore I was instantly in love, so attached and convinced he was perfect.. in the middle of the night I abruptly changed course and decided to fight and go for the surgery route. Theodore had his first open heart surgery in his first week of life and then had to have another one two days later to fix something. Both surgeries went amazing and he was doing so well…. Then in the middle of the night his blood pressure spiked high and we found that there was severe swelling to his brain and little bleeds starting to form all over. There was nothing that the doctors or I could do, I had to make the gut wrenching decision to take my baby off of his heart and lung supporting machine and hold his sweet little delicate hand till he passed away to God. Theodore James Batrićević taught me how boundless and limitless love and spirit are. He was so calm but yet so aware and vocal, his hair was dark and curly and his skin was so tan and smooth, his eyes pierced through your soul and he calmed down when he heard the you’ll be in my heart song from Tarzan. He even recognized his Dad’s voice through the phone. He was the most beautiful baby I had ever seen, a true angel. I may not understand everything and the whys and how’s right now but I do know that he taught me what unconditional love truly is. For my son Theodore 🪽I miss you in the quiet, and I miss you in the noise. I miss the little life we dreamed, the sound of your precious cry…I miss the weight of your body in my arms, your tiny fingers wrapped around mine. I would relive every single second, just to hold you one more time..I carry you within me, In every single breath and prayer .. in every beautiful thing I see. I know you are always there..
