I remember this hippy once telling me that Cairo’s one of Earth’s ‘energy centers,’ which I still can’t define, but now totally believe because I’m pretty sure it’s the craziest city on the planet.

Its 20 million residents literally don’t stop - you cross the street amidst oncoming traffic (‘dare them to hit you,’ was the advice I got), motorbikes bull down sidewalks, you’re constantly getting scammed. It’s timeworn, gritty, and covered in dust and yet, still, Cairo’s spectacular.

The world’s first university sits, gated, between a live animal market and chaotic bazaar. The 5,000 year old pyramids peak out from some of the worst pollution I’ve experienced. A stone’s throw, the world’s biggest museum, newly-opened, lies in the shadow of Giza’s giant construction projects.

Cairo, however, feels to me like whatever the opposite of a museum is. It’s worn-down and lived-in; like you can feel the weight of history and time, not so much that it’s, like, derelict, but enough that you’re invited to feel part of it all, especially when you’re at the best concert oml feat pyramids & @tiesto taken in Cairo by @loganjgardner

I made a music video! And I feel proud of it!

LOVE LOST is my second short and came together over five days this summer.

It’s pretty much everything this song makes me feel.

For better and worse, being all over the place means I’ve spent a lot of my most romantic moments alone. You know, things like beautiful sunsets, perfect pastries, and the honeymoon cruise my brother once booked for us in Botswana.

At first, it was hard not to feel the emptiness of experiencing these amazing things without the love of my life by my side. But after a while, I realized the love I thought I lost was inside me all along 🥲

Hopefully you feel some of that in the video. It’s really not perfect - I learned the hard way about wearing white on-camera and shooting into direct sun during a heat wave. But I still love it and maybe you will too!

I’ve been in film school this summer!

And, tbh, pivoting to a pipe dream, at 31, feels like a total rollercoaster.

Between the highs of giving what (I think?) I love a chance and the lows of, like, all my self-doubt ever is Anya: my childhood bff, who makes all the difference.

All of which is to say: shooting my first project together (check out the stills!) meant a lot.

We’re a long way from making dumb MacBook movies. Or maybe we’re not, which would be great, cause I wanna hold onto that energy forever (to anyone who was ever in Calumet Idol - we still lol about this).

To everyone else - support your artist friends, your wannabe artist friends, or just your friends. It means more than you know!

Ok hi! Finally back because I have way too much to say and too little time to say it.

Spent the last two years on five continents - getting violently mugged, breaking my leg, trekking like five mountains, and finally going to yoga school - all while living my best life on beaches ‘round the world.

I felt as happy, free, confused, and lonely (at the same time) as you can probably imagine. Exploring the world and myself, visiting friends in far-flung places, and meeting incredible new ones along the way (I still love u!) pretty much changed how I’ll live my life forever.

First solo trek (!) meant a lot to me this May. Idk how to share it on Instagram, but a meaningful post on Rosh Hashanah feels right.

Though I was nervous, I had read that A Travessia was popular, well-marked, and even had cabins to sleep in. All things considered, I thought, I was unlikely to end up lost & alone.

For three days, I was often lost, entirely alone, and forced to sleep in the cold without shelter, as the cabins were infested with bees. By the end, I had walked 70 miles - nearly three times what I had expected - and 9,000 feet in elevation gain.

I think it was the hardest activity I’ve ever done, though, strangely, I didn’t feel very scared, sore, or exhausted at the time. Mostly, it felt like I was in some sort of trance, meditating on this landscape I had suddenly and surprisingly found myself part of, if only for three days.

After a while, I came to feel its vastness as a vastness within myself. I’m not very biblical, but I started to repeat a verse that has since proved inspirational for me and maybe can inspire you too. “For truly, I tell you, if you have the faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

True story: I found this beach - on an island two hours from Rio - scrolling around Google Maps. I planned to find someone to give me directions once I was on the island. But while everyone had heard of the beach, nobody knew how to get there.

Four days of asking around (and a detour to the mainland) somehow left me more determined. At a loss, I turned to my trusty pal Google Maps and found a trail a two day’s hike away.

The trail was a mess - steep, hard, and overgrown, with massive spiders everywhere. But the priceless feeling of freedom when I stepped on this literally perfect beach made it all worth it 🥲🌊🌴
