After a long month away from home — from altitude training camp in Colorado Springs to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha — I’m walking away incredibly grateful for everything this journey has given me.

It’s surreal to think that in 2012, I missed the Olympic Trials cut by mere hundredths of a second. I couldn’t have imagined that just four years later, that same race would end in a sixth-place finish. It’s a reminder that growth doesn’t always happen overnight, but it does come with persistence, hard work, and belief in yourself.

To everyone who supported me along the way — my friends, family, Sandpipers of Nevada, and Harvard Men’s Swim & Dive — thank you. Your encouragement and belief in me have meant more than I can put into words.

My heart is full. This experience has renewed my sense of purpose and passion for the sport, especially during moments when it wavered. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and proud of that younger version of myself — the kid who once doubted he could even finish a 100-yard freestyle all those years ago.

Wishing the best of luck to everyone competing in Rio. And to those who’ve been in my corner — thank you. I wouldn’t be here without you ❤️ taken in Omaha, Nebraska by @loganthouck
