Spent a very dreamy week doing stop motion on @movementgeneration @sogoreatelandtrust land project, bringing to life their story of returning 43 acres of land in Bay Miwok territory to Indigenous stewardship and care. I loved hearing stories of controlled burns refreshing the hillsides for new growth and rainbow trout returning to the streams. I love spending time with my woodrat, coyote, oak tree, redwood, turkey vulture, poppy, and blue belly lizard relatives. I loved animating with water, river rock, lupin, and light. It was really challenging but fulfilling too. There is deep joy and healing that comes with returning to right relationship with land. More magic soon! Land back!

NEW PUBLICATION! 💥 The No Arena Strategy Playbook is a collection of lessons from 16 No Arena organizers about how to build a large-scale movement that is fierce and joyful while centering relationship and solidarity above all. An edition of 150 risograph zines printed beautifully by Many Folds Press (@manyfortunes) featuring original illustrations by Esther Lui (@etlui) and designed by Lily Xie (@lolysoups). Pick up a copy at AAU’s Mid Autumn Festival on Saturday September 26.

From the playbook introduction, written by Lauren Lowe:
Rather than covering a comprehensive, in-depth narrative of the 2+ years long movement, you’ll find here reflections and tactics from organizers and volunteers sharing insights from their experiences together. … During the campaign, we’d often acknowledge there was ‘an arena in every neighborhood.’ We know the arena fight was just one of many in Philadelphia—and beyond—against predatory development. Others have been and continue to organize around urgent issues of their own. We see this playbook as a gesture of learning and exchange, a reference for anyone inspired to organize with their friends and neighbors. We hope it can be a reminder of what’s possible when people come together, united by a vision for a more just world.

Featuring writing and interviews from:
Nicole, Yvonne Lung, LL, Vivian Chang, Alli Lau, Jenny Zhang, Kaia Lin Chau, Faye, Wei Chen, Kimmy Cook, Pallavi Rao, Britt Alston, Clarise McCants, Melissa McCleery, Debbie Wei, and Debora Kodish

No cars for ICE! Very lucky to work on these posters and shirts with the brilliant organizers at @18millionrising for their campaign to break ICE power. Learn more ➡️➡️ @18millionrising

Beautiful print jobs by local Philly talents @maddogdiggittydog and @perijlaw @phillysoapbox !

ICE relies on corporations to carry out their crusade against immigrants. From hotels to car rentals, billionaires are profiting off the abduction and inhumane detention of our immigrant neighbors.

Enterprise is a key player that supplies vehicles to ICE to carry out their deportations. Take action with us to demand Enterprise drop their contract with ICE and uphold their social good policy to bring an end to profiting off a violent and unjust immigration detention system.

Thank you so much @creativewildfire_ @danaviloria for making this possible!! by @lolysoups

Spotlight this month is on Lily Xie @lolysoups! Lily Xie is a Chinese-American artist whose socially-engaged work explores desire, memory, and self-determination for communities of color.

Lily shared her insights on urban planning, animation, the importance of PopEd, and the importance of honoring our ancestors and those who have been at the forefront of movement work with our current socially-engaged practices.

This fall, Lily and #NoArenaChinatown will be debuting the No Arena Strategy Playbook with hopes that new organizers and people interested in getting involved in organizing can learn something and get inspired, and that we can record some of the reflections from this powerful fight.
