There are truly no words to describe my past two weeks. I took a leap of faith and decided to go on a mission trip with a group of people I had never met, based out of Connecticut, to the Dominican Republic. This has by far been the best experience I’ve ever had, one that stretched me in every way and deepened my faith more than I could ever explain. I don’t even know where to begin.

First, I want to thank everyone who donated and helped me raise the funds to go. I never would’ve thought I’d meet some of the best friends I could ever ask for on this trip. Being surrounded by God-centered people who simply wanted to serve was amazing. I love every single one of them and couldn’t have asked for a better group.

This experience has been so special, something I’ve never seen or felt before. I have story after story I could share, but for now, I’ll try to keep it simple.

We served mostly in the bateys, which are rural communities where Haitian sugarcane workers live in extreme poverty with little access to healthcare, education, or basic necessities. We were able to do construction projects, host free medical clinics, distribute food, and even have a group out evangelizing.

I spent a good portion of my time at Joe Hartman School, a private Christian school for Pre-K through 6th grade in a very poor barrio. During our first week, I helped run VBS for the kids, and the second week we worked on painting projects to refurbish the school. In just a short time, that place became so special to me. Getting to know the kids, loving on them, and being loved by them in return was both beautiful and humbling.

Someone said something this week that stuck with me:
“The world we live in may equally distribute talent, but it does not equally distribute opportunity.”
This trip was a powerful reminder of that truth.

I have so many stories of how God moved over these past two weeks and how much of a blessing it was just to be here. I may have come to serve others, but this trip has forever changed me.

I don’t think I could have ever imagined how much this trip would stretch me, deepen my faith, and open my eyes to both the goodness of God and the incredible need for Him around the world. These last 2.5 months have been one of the greatest blessings of my life. I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside incredible people, watching lives be impacted by the Gospel, and seeing firsthand how God works through ordinary people who are simply willing to say yes. One of the greatest gifts of this season was getting to stay long enough to experience life beyond a short-term mission trip. I was welcomed into homes, communities, and friendships that quickly became like family, and I know I’ll carry those relationships with me long after I leave. God taught me that some of the most meaningful ministry doesn’t happen in the big moments but in faithfully loving the person right in front of you. These months have also continued to confirm His calling on my life for long-term missions, and I’m leaving more certain than ever that this is what He has created me to do. I’m so thankful for every person who prayed for me, supported me, encouraged me, or followed along this summer. I truly couldn’t have done this without you. And to everyone in the Dominican Republic who welcomed me into your lives—thank you. You’ve changed me more than you’ll ever know. I’m excited to see how God continues to bless this ministry, continue changing lives, and continue equipping those He calls to share the hope of Christ.
