As the Christmas season draws closer we would like to share our unique home knitted Santa's and Snow Men are back on the shelf as well as new Garrett themed coasters.

You can purchase these items through the long Shop museum gift shop or online through our website by clicking the link below. Woolly Snowmen and Santa's will be selling for £8 and coasters are selling for £6 each.

As Halloween approaches we would like to share the dates of our upcoming Halloween Craft day on the 30th of October that will be taking place in the museum. The day start's at 10 am and is free to anyone taking part. There will also be a children's 'saving our tree's.' workshop that will be in collaboration with some of the artists who took part in the Edge Land exhibition here at the museum for young visitor's to take part in.

In light of our annual motorcycle day coming up this Sunday we decided to post a throwback to our event in 2024.

The event is hosted by the museum and will begin at 10 am - anyone arriving on a motorbike, trike or combination may come in for free. Enjoy hot food from KC's diner and refreshments supplied by the museum as well as interesting chat from an array of like-minded bike enthusiasts.

Pedestrian visitors pay the usual museum entry fee and are encouraged to join in on the fun as well as view the added Motorcycle display.

Last weekend our Steam Team took our Steam Tractor 'The Joker' to @Henham Steam and Country Show where they were awarded a rosette for the museum's consistent attendance to the event.

The Joker is the Long Shop's rarest Steam Engine with the only surviving 5CD model being at the museum after it's arrival here in 1994. The intended use for the tractor when manufactured in 1917 was for it to be used for ploughing and hauling farm machinery. With Garret's marketing it as the 'Suffolk Punch' of steam tractors.

However, The Joker was impractical for farmers as they were too heavy and required too much space for turning in fields. Despite it's lack of success the Joker is a unique tractor from the Steam age with only 8 of these 5CD tractors being made.

The museum gives a big thank you to Henham Steam Show for the rosette as well as our brilliant Steam team who transported Joker.

This Sunday our popular Motorcycle Day returns to the The Long Shop Museum.
Sunday 27th Sept 10am to 3pm, simply turn up on a motorbike, trike or combination and enjoy the museum surroundings for free. Meet like minded riders and share in your enthusiasm for life on two wheels (or three).
Pedestrians pay normal museum entry fees and all can enjoy the Museum with the added display of amazing motorcycles.
Make a day of it and enjoy hot food from KC's DINER or tea and cakes from our refreshments hub.

Congratulations to our Garrett Trolleybus restoration team who received an award for their amazing work on No.26 here at the museum. They received their award from the @National Transport Trust and enjoyed a day out at Fawley Hill.

We are so pleased that the team received recognition for all the hard work they put into restoring the Trolleybus.

FREE entry to The Long Shop Museum. This Saturday 12th September (donations always welcome). We're supporting the Heritage Open Days Festival! The festival theme for 2026 is “Everyday Histories”, highlighting the lives of ordinary working people and the often-overlooked stories of local communities. Visit the Long Shop and see how one of the world's earliest examples of flowline manufacturing helped to transform the East Coast of Suffolk into a global manufacturing centre.
As well as free entry to the industrial cathedral of the Long Shop, you can enjoy access to the magnificent Edge Land display in our Garrett Room. Edge Land is a two-year multi-arts project involving 21 photographers, poets, writers, sculptors, artists, documentary makers, performance artists, ceramicists exploring change on the Suffolk coast.

At Long Shop Museum we are saddened by the loss of our Founder and Patron, Lord Cranbrook. It was only a few months ago that he attended the event to name the Cranbrook Gallery in his honour.
We shall always remember him as the man that saved a unique and important piece of Suffolk's heritage, and helped to turn it into a source of learning, personal development, community wellbeing, and civic pride.
