A gift to my younger self.

To the little girl who once wore clip on earrings because her ears weren't pierced, hid her jewelry around her overly religious family, who questioned whether loving beautiful things was wrong, and who carried the weight of expectations she didn’t fully understand…

I wish I could tell you that one day, you would discover that your worth was never measured by what you wore or didn’t wear, your obedience, or even your ability to be and look perfect.

That you would come to know freedom in Christ, not through religious performance, but through a personal relationship with Him.

That the very business you once felt compelled to walk away from would become something you could return to with a renewed perspective, greater intention, and a heart for stewardship.

And that the dreams you once tucked away weren’t necessarily dreams you had to abandon.

Today, I’m giving that little girl Valerie something she never imagined.

A new beginning.

After years of growing, unlearning, rediscovering my faith, and finding my way back to something I love, I’m officially reintroducing Valerie & Luxe.

A curated jewelry house celebrating refinement, intentional living, and the beauty of the everyday.

The beauty is in the piece. The freedom is in Christ.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” — John 10:10 (KJV)

For years, I allowed religious expectations to shape what I believed about faith, freedom, and even something as simple as wearing jewelry.

But studying Scripture for myself changed everything.

I discovered that the true gospel isn’t about religious performance or man-made rules. It’s about salvation through Jesus Christ.

“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” — Romans 10:9 (KJV)

Religion can obscure the gospel. Christ reveals the way to life.

Behind every person called to serve is a life…and often a family carrying the weight of that service, too.

In the shadow of last week’s 9/11 remembrance, we are reminded of the profound sacrifices made by those who run toward danger—our first responders, military members, and public servants—and the unseen strength of the families standing faithfully behind them. Moments like these call us to pause, reflect, and recognize the quiet resilience that carries through generations of service.

In the newest leConversation, I’m reminded by my dear friend @melrosecasanova, founder of AVODA House, whose work provides specialized pastoral care for first responders, military members, public servants, and the families who serve alongside them.
