“I was born in the 60’s, so of course I was already familiar with analog photography and have always loved it. But when I was younger, I spent more of my artistic time on drawing and film making. Then in 2021, I was at my parent’s house and watched a documentary about Slim Aarons and found his photography mesmerizing. I thought taking photos with a ‘real’ camera would be a great way to express my creativity. My best friend said his dad had an old Pentax K-1000 that he’d sell to me for $250. It came with a 50mm and a 85-200mm zoom, and a flash, and I was assured the camera was in good shape and it was. I didn’t know how to work a camera but thanks to YouTube and me actually taking time to learn and study, I was able to get a few okay images from my first roll of film.

“Since then, I think if it hadn’t been for film cameras, I wouldn’t have met the diverse, helpful, talented and kind people that I have. Nor would I have discovered so many photographers of the pre-digital phase, which would be a monumental loss.

“As far as digital photography, I can appreciate the ease of use, the versatility and even some of the results that digital photographers create, but I can’t help but mumble to myself when I see these images ‘it would look better on film.’” @loosecharm
