Happy Valentine Street Day! This month we explored the question: is LA a romantic city? While it may not woo you with rose petals everyday (what city does!), LA romances with its culture, quirks and charms. Just look at the long loving tale of Room 8, the adored cat and mascot of Elysian Heights Elementary school in Echo Park. (We write about it in this month’s issue!)

Another year in the books! In 2025 we explored more of this city. We ate at new and old restaurants, checked out different museums, discovered fresh music venues and chose new hiking trails. We asked your recommendations and gave you ours. We reflected more and more on what it means to be an Angeleno.

We explored the strip malls of the city (!) and even wrote a sonnet as an ode to these special beacons of sustenance and wonder (actually @khakibango did so he deserves all the credit!). So before we officially turn the page on another year, let us all gather around the firepit to reflect, recite and remember what is truly great about our gal Los Angeles:

The City Roars Like Beast-Infested Seas

The city roars like beast-infested seas.
(And creaks some, too, like gears on rusted bikes.)
Those bellowed sounds, though, soften to a wheeze,
As I approach my beacon: Jersey Mike’s.

New weeds show there’s still life in these old haunts—
Which, like the billboards, slowly decompose.
This is an Eden, ripe with restaurants
(Plus probing rats and roaches, watchful crows).

Below me, bones (ex-chicken wings?) may point
Towárd a finer place, a better time.
That pizza box beside them, though, anoints
The concrete here and now: this mall; this grime.

An island is a desert framed with shores;
A strip mall is a home with open doors.

Happy New Year y’all! See you in 2026 💙

As November marches on and another year nears the horizon, we take the time to reflect on the things that matter to us most…concert tickets 🤪

But really! What are the cultural things that matter to you most? What would you plan to do/see/watch/eat a year in advance? What events (astrotourism, your favorite band’s reunion tour, a global sporting event) would you prioritize on your calendar above all else? Drop us a link in the comments, we want to know!

Well dear reader (ahem, dear scroller), it’s been a year since we’ve been Loose Landing and we’re glad you’re here. In this month’s issue you answered our questions about what works in our humble little project, what you’d like to see more of, less of and generally why you’re still here - in LA we mean. Because you love it (or at least 52.9% of you to be exact)

A short note of thanks because time is money and attention is gold, if we’re still talking currency. We’re grateful if we’ve influenced you to get out in this mess of streets we call a city and try something new at least once. Something like the below. No time like the present!

We made it through the summer! Just kidding, we all know we’re just getting started here in LA and the real heat is upon us ☀️ No better time to find a cool, damp bar (like the ones in this month’s issue) to watch a game of soccer in preparation for the football mayhem that’s sweeping the nation - or join a bar watch of The Summer I Turned Pretty, whatever your jam is 😝

Sometimes we have to lose the plot to really find ourselves. Or to happen in on a bookstore or learn how to mend your jeans, see creative work inspired by plant life or say goodbye to an icon. All things we recommend you do these last dog days (weeks) of summer. Sometimes it’s not part of the plan, but maybe it should be.

This month we’re thinking about magic. Where to find it; where to cultivate more of it in our lives. Sometimes that means throwing the playbook out the window (read in this month’s issue about a surprise dinner at Sal’s Place, not to be confused with Sam’s Place!). Other times it means being intentional about going out looking for it.

When we sat down to curate a list of events happening in March, we scratched our heads a bit to find the throughline. March lacks the romantic excitement of Feb, the promise of springtime that April/May bring, and the delight of spritz season that comes with the Summer months. But you know what, our city is busting with amazing things to do every month and March is certainly no exception.
