CANstruction is officially back at Brookfield Place! 🥫✨
The 34th annual design competition has completely taken over the Winter Garden and surrounding spaces with mind-blowing, larger-than-life sculptures built entirely out of unopened cans of food.
This year, 22 teams of NYC’s top architects, engineers, and construction firms have stacked thousands of cans into structural masterpieces—including a incredibly detailed, towering high-heel Prada shoe sculpted perfectly out of sardine tins and tomato paste cans! 👠🥫
The best part? It’s public art with a huge purpose. Once the exhibition wraps up, every single can used to build these structures is disassembled and donated to City Harvest to help feed New Yorkers in need just in time for the holidays. ❤️
📍 Where: Brookfield Place, 230 Vesey St, Lower Manhattan
📅 When: October 30 – November 9, 2026
⏰ Hours: 10 AM – 7 PM daily (closes at 6 PM on November 9)
🎟️ Admission: FREE!
💡 Pro-Tip: Stop by the Information Table in the Winter Garden to grab an exhibition map and drop off a few cans of your own to contribute to the donation bin. Don't forget to vote for your favorite sculpture for the People's Choice award!
Which sculpture is getting your vote this year?

Welcome to Winter River! 🪲💜⚰️
If you recognize this building, you’re officially a Tim Burton fan. This is Miss Shannon's School for Girls, the iconic private school attended by Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) in the 1988 classic Beetlejuice.
While it looks straight out of a fictional Connecticut town, this spooky piece of cinema history is actually located in East Corinth, Vermont. In real life, the 100+ year-old building serves as a historic Masonic Lodge, but they keep a recreation of the famous sign out front for fans visiting on New England road trips.
Spooky facts for your next road trip:
• 🎬 The Real Deal: East Corinth served as the primary backdrop for exterior filming in both the original 1988 film and the recent Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel.
• 📍 Where to find it: You can spot this landmark right at 778 Village Road.
• 🗺️ Treasure Hunt: The tiny village often marks filming spots with orange cones and photo stills so fans can easily match up real-world spots with scenes from the movie. Nearby, you can also scope out the crash site on Chicken Farm Road and the library.

The Mothman legend began in November 1966, when two young couples near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, reported seeing a towering, winged humanoid with glowing red eyes. Over the next 13 months, more than 100 sightings were reported. The mystery became forever linked to the December 15, 1967, collapse of the Silver Bridge, which killed 46 people. Popularized by John Keel’s The Mothman Prophecies and its 2002 film adaptation, the creature became known in folklore as a tragic omen warning of impending disaster.

In 2003, Point Pleasant unveiled a 12-foot stainless steel Mothman statue created by local sculptor Bob Roach. While intended to honor the town’s supernatural legend, its muscular backside has become an unexpected internet sensation, earning nicknames like “Shiny Hiney” and “Mothcheeked.”

The statue has also become a destination for fans of Fallout 76, a video game set in post-apocalyptic West Virginia that features Mothman worshippers. Inspired by the game’s survival themes and canned rations, visitors began leaving cans of beans at the statue as humorous offerings to the “Wise Mothman,” blending local folklore, gaming culture, and internet humor into a quirky modern tradition.
