I am excited to start off 2024 by announcing the upcoming official release of Nahuakai’pō: Voyagers of the Night, written and directed by yours truly.

Mainstream Hollywood often portrays Hawaii as paradise and tends to brush over a lot of the issues we face here. I want to make films that show a more authentic side of the islands and the people living within them. What happened to stories from Hawai’i for Hawai’i, not just set in Hawai’i?

This story dives into concepts of tourism and Hawaiian folklore while highlighting the dynamic between local and visitor to show that cultural misconceptions can lead to problematic situations.

To date, Nahuakai’pō has been in 7 festivals around the world. It held its world premiere at the very first Fo Reel Pidgin Film Festival! The film also landed me first place recognition for the Visionary Filmmaker award from the University of Hawaii’s School of Cinematic Arts.

Been w @olelocommunity working as a media specialist for a little over a year now💜I really enjoy learning about all these diff aspects of production while also being able to aid the community/youth.

Im stoked to say that I will now be moving on as a producer for Olelo. Im grateful to have people who believe in my abilities and are willing to mentor me🙏🏼

Big appreesh to UH, Michael Hoffman, and Olelo for letting me come work in the sound department for Lilo and Stitch 2025!

I’ll be real, it’s kinda weird for me to work for Disney because I want to make films for the Kingdom of Hawaii. Kinda feels like I’m a sell out. But I met so many cool people and I learned through the lens of each role in production. I came out with a good idea of what I like, and where I could be useful.

Funny enough, I was cut from the credits. Just shows how Disney treats their people. I’ll always remember doing ADR with @zackgalifianakis, or lending my skateboard to the camera department so @sydneyagudong could simulate surfing for the VFX. It is what it is.

Lastly, I was called to do both sound and camera, which is an honor. I chose sound because they called me first and I didn’t know other departments would call. When camera called to offer me my dream job, I told them I already committed to sound because I didn’t want to look unprofessional. A lesson I taught myself is you to do gotta do what’s best for yourself. Sometimes that means selling out to destructive corporations, and sometimes it means looking unprofessional. Either way, I’m happy with the route I went and the people I met, but damn would it have been cool to work with 🎥
