It's the most wonderful time of year again as the watch world descends upon Geneva for @watchesandwonders. How is everyone finding the releases this year? My biases always run strong but favourites so far come from Lange, IWC, and Grand Seiko! #watchesandwonders

A new bespoke pairing for the Lange - I wanted something that was more casual and muted compared to my "standard" purple alligator, while also cooling down and complimenting the rose gold case.

The strap is made of Togo leather in Bleu Agate. Togo has a lovely grain and soft temper with superb colour expression and durability. Bleu agate is a rich shade of mid blue with hints of grey which is particularly versatile and helps balance the warmth of the rose gold.

To lend a sporting edge, a contrast stitch was chosen; here, a pale grey instead of ecru for slightly softer contrast and to maintain a sense of elegance.

I mimicked the square padding of OEM Lange straps, which was executed perfectly, providing substance where needed and then tapering gracefully down into the rest of the strap. Similarly, my request for a rounded tail was realized perfectly.

To add a very personal touch, I went with only 3 holes in the tail - the centre hole being most suitable for most days, and the ones on either side to accommodate wrist and temperature changes. This is a particularly enjoyable detail when done right, and I encourage other enthusiasts to choose this as it makes the strap feel truly bespoken to you!

Of course, I had to include an element of purple; in this case, a painted edge of royal purple which flies under the radar until closer inspection.

Thank you to the team at @atelier.tamago for patiently working with me and listening to my myriad of requests! #Lange1 #ALangeSohne

This post is a little longer than usual, but this piece is very close to my heart. Indeed, a significant one for me.

My father has always been a diligent, genuine man, with his possessions reflecting these traits. Though not an avid collector, he dabbled, and through the years assembled a small assortment of watches that spoke to him. These were purchased solely for his own enjoyment and appreciation - never for self proclamation.

I remember this watch being glued to his wrist - often spotted across the table from me during a stern lecture, or glinting softly on his outstretched arm as he came in for a hug after returning from yet another trip overseas. The watch has followed him loyally from boardroom to boarding gate, reliably serving as his tireless companion. In many ways, it has been the closest thing to a daily “knockaround” piece for him. The watch certainly has the scratches and scuffs to show for it!

The Pandemic and subsequent travel restrictions lead to me not seeing my father for nearly three years, so his visit this summer was a long overdue reunion. As was usual during his visits, the balmy summer nights were cut with plenty of austere guidance and a healthy dash of nostalgia. It was near the end of one such night when he reached over and slid the watch across the table; now entering the twilight years of his career, he hoped the watch could now serve as a talisman of fortuity for me, as it had been for him through the years. His only request - to wear it in good health, and to wear it often.

Thanks, Dad. I’ll do my best to add some meaningful scratches of my own.

Chose the heavy 1815 in WG to celebrate the all platinum Datograph Perpetual launched today by the wizards at @alangesoehne! The team has been finding their groove lately with hit after hit 😁

There's so much depth in the amazing dial of the @seltenwatch x @watchhoandco Yum Cha. From the tone of the enamel to the individual engravings, the details come to life when the lighting is just right. #DimSumTime

One of the strangest watches I've ever come across. Oddly industrial yet artisanal with its 488 (I'm taking their word for it) hand-applied lume pins housed within a diecast case. Supremely comfortable with real visual presence. My favourite angle is from the side, when the dial becomes a cityscape.

The @militadowatches ML26 is just an all around fun watch to wear. Comfortable, compact, with plenty of small details to keep you interested.

Just in time for #FliegerFriday, the 3706 is back on its trademark brick bracelet. In addition to being a statement of the neo-vintage IWC "engineered" aesthetic, the bracelet provides the necessary counterweight to balance the tank-like head on the wrist. Probus Scafusia indeed!

Perfect for when you just need to grab a watch and head out the door, knowing it's ready for any situation.

Whispers in white gold.

The IWC 3706 proves to be an absolute strap monster. We're adopting some military/tactical vibes with this pairing: an aviator-style sailcloth strap from @strapsco that's rubber-lined and ready to handle anything. Combined with the screw-down crown and 60m WR, I'm ready for Vancouver's notoriously damp autumn.
