Before you trust my book reviews, here’s what you need to know… 👀📚

Because there’s more to a book review than whether I liked it. I’m talking plot holes, questionable character decisions, writing styles, emotional damage and occasionally spiralling over fictional people who have absolutely no idea I exist. 🫠

So here’s how I review books at Lore & Lashes:

📖 The story: Plot, pacing, world-building, twists and whether everything actually makes sense.

🖤 The characters: Development, motivations, chemistry, relationships and whether I actually CARE about these fictional people.

✍🏽 The writing: Prose, dialogue, atmosphere and how well the story is brought to life.

🤷🏼‍♀️ DNFing? Never heard of her. My brain simply will not let me abandon a book without knowing what happens.

💬 Honest opinions, always. I’ll talk about what worked, what didn’t and why. Even when a book isn’t for me, that doesn’t mean you can’t love it.

⚠️ A little spoiler warning: I’ll do my best to warn you and separate spoiler-heavy thoughts where I can, but I do post spoilers.

3-STAR READS ARE BAD BOOKS?! 👀📚

Because apparently, if a book doesn’t get 4 or 5 stars, people assume you hated it. And honestly? That’s not how it works over here. 🖤

So let’s talk about how I rate books at Lore & Lashes.

⭐ 1 star: Not for me. Something just wasn’t working.
⭐⭐ 2 stars: There was potential, but too much missed the mark.
⭐⭐⭐ 3 stars: YES, I ENJOYED IT. It just didn’t completely consume my soul.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4 stars: I really loved it. I’m invested, I’m attached, and I’m probably recommending it.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars: I AM UNWELL. 🫠

This book lives rent-free in my head, and everyone is about to hear about it.

Expect spam DMs. Expect voice notes of me crying my eyes out. Expect incoherent waffling, excessive expressions of love, and absolutely no ability to form a coherent sentence.
I will be insufferable about this book.

You have been warned. 😂🖤

My ratings aren’t about declaring a book objectively good or bad. They’re about my personal reading experience, what worked for me, and how deeply a story got under my skin.

I’m an emotional reader. I crave connection, get attached to fictional characters, and will happily overanalyse every little detail.

A book doesn’t have to be flawless to be a favourite, and a 3-star rating doesn’t mean a book is bad or that I didn’t love it.

I can’t think of a snappy one liner.

I’m in my feelings today more so than ever, is it my depression or is it my hormones… who knows but it is what it is and it’s flaring up alongside my pain so I made this. Made is a strong word - I screen recorded and put it into the Edits app.

These are the ladies who always help me cheer me up, either because they’re my talented best friend from childhood or the new friends I’ve made here who have brought a mixture of laughs, kindness, joy, support and a feeling of belonging…

ARC REVIEW | The Endless Dark by Rose R. Briar

Six years ago, the world shattered. Now Amara is running out of time to save her son, and the only road to help runs straight through the werewolf king she loved AND betrayed.

Full transparency: this was a VERY slow start for me. It took until around 30% before things really started escalating and the plot began to move. As a debut novel and the first book in a trilogy, I can appreciate that there’s a lot of world-building and groundwork to lay, but patience is definitely required with this one.

BUT STICK WITH IT. I filled an entire notebook with theories and STILL didn’t see that twist coming. 👀

What kept me invested? Characters who feel real and a found family that actually holds each other accountable The emotional payoff was worth the slow build, and this is only book one of a trilogy. I NEED book two.

✨ Found family ✨ Second chance ✨ He thought she was dead ✨ Ancient magic

💄Lash scale: 4/5 — slow burn, then very open door. I personally preferred the build up over the open door on this one.
 ⚠️ Content Warnings: character death, violence, explicit sexual content, alcohol use.

I’m sorry but… did we all read the same book? 👀

Because I went into Verity expecting a psychological thriller that would have me questioning EVERYONE. Who was lying, who was manipulating who, and what the hell was actually going on.

And honestly? I was, for a while.

I spent half the book coming up with theories that I honestly think were more interesting than what we actually got.

The premise? YES.
The potential? ABSOLUTELY.
The execution? …I have questions.

1⭐ — my theories were better.

Coming home to this surprise, @samg_reads you are actually one of the kindest souls I have had the pleasure to meet. Thank you so much, not just for the book (which I’ve been dying to read since YOU told me about it) but for being such an incredibly supportive friend. Thank you Rebecca Yarros for writing The Empyrian Series so we could fall in love with Xaden and set the stage for @samg_reads and I to meet 🖤
