· ‘Curving Time’ is what happens when two musicians spend over a decade circling the same question from opposite directions, and finally sit down to answer it together. Takeshi Nishimoto and Hiroshi Watanabe have individually spent more than twenty years exploring the emotional reach of instrumental music - one through guitar, sarod, and acoustic composition, the other through synthesizers and electronic production.
This, their first collaborative release, unites these parallel journeys revealing a musical language where neither electronics nor acoustic instruments take centre stage.

Pre-order Ltd cassette: 🔗 in bio

“Poised and quietly mesmerising, Curving Time feels suspended outside the everyday, drawing its beauty from the spaces between notes and the instinctive connection of two distinct musical voices.” - Chain DLK

‘Curving Time’ is the second part of the next instalment of the Lo Recordings SPACIOUSNESS series, designed and packaged by the multi award winning team of @non.format and @anti_inc

The first single ‘Empty Park’ is released today with the cassette album to follow on November 6th 2026.

· ‘Offshore’ is the forthcoming solo guitar album from Half Moon Bay local Alex Pasternak, an improvisatory record built almost entirely around a single instrument and a single practice: Restraint.
Recorded close to home, it carries the sound of the Pacific and the voices of his two young daughters as they stroll the shoreline, from serene minus tides to stormy shore break.

Pre-order Ltd cassette: 🔗 in bio

“Intimate yet expansive, it captures the sensation of returning to a formative landscape and discovering that its smallest details can still open up unexpected worlds.” - Chain DLK

‘Offshore’ is the next instalment of the Lo Recordings SPACIOUSNESS series, designed and packaged by the multi award winning team of @non.format and @anti_inc

Have you ever wondered what the titles of Susumu Yokota’s ‘Sakura’ tracks meant?

‘Saku’ — New Moon
朔 (saku) is the new moon: the dark first night of the lunar month, when a new cycle begins. Its sound also echoes the album's title, ‘Sakura’.

‘Tobiume’ — The Flying Plum Tree
When the scholar Sugawara no Michizane was exiled from Kyoto, legend says his beloved plum tree flew overnight to join him in Dazaifu. A plum tree honoured as the Tobiume still stands at Dazaifu Tenmangū shrine.

‘Uchu Tanjyo’ — Birth of the Universe
A title as vast as they come, on an album named after a small, fleeting flower.

‘Hagoromo’ — The Feather Robe
In Japanese legend, a celestial maiden hangs her feather robe on a pine branch; without it she cannot return to the heavens. The tale is best known through the Noh play Hagoromo.

‘Genshi’ — Primordial
原始 (genshi): the very beginning, before anything had a name.

‘Gekkoh’ — Moonlight
月光 (gekkō): moonlight. The album opens on a new moon and returns to the moon here.

‘Hisen’ — The Hidden Immortal
秘仙 is not in any dictionary. It joins 秘 (hidden) with 仙 (sennin), the immortal hermits of Taoist lore who live deep in the mountains.

‘Azukiiro no Kaori’ — The Scent of Azuki Colour
小豆色 (azuki-iro) is a traditional Japanese colour, the muted reddish-brown of azuki beans. Here a colour is given a scent.

‘Kodomotachi’ — Children
子供達 (kodomotachi): children. The simplest title on the album.

‘Naminote’ — Hands of the Waves
波の手: literally, the hands of the waves.

‘Shinsen’ — New Line

‘Kirakiraboshi’ — Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
きらきら星 is the Japanese name of the nursery song every child in Japan knows. It closes the album.

Special thanks to @akimism.

· In this month’s Electronic Sound magazine Nick Nicely talks about his 1982 cult-classic ‘Hilly Fields’, which the NME described as ‘the best psychedelic record made since the 1960s’.

32 years later, Lo Recordings released Nick’s LP ‘Space of a Second’ (Lo108) - which included an acoustic version of the track, with The @guardian’s Alexis Petridis describing Nick as “Unique, almost inexplicable”.

Djrum on 'Grinning Cat' by Susumu Yokota:

"I took it to the counter to have a listen and was instantly captivated. I’ve never heard anyone capture this as well as Yokota on 'Grinning Cat'...I still learn from this album now, even having listened to it hundreds of times already."

This Friday, Nelly pays tribute to him with ‘The Thousand Faces of Susumu Yokota’: an hour-long immersion in the musical world of Susumu Yokota, the Japanese electronic music composer and sound wizard, whose work spanned every genre, from deep house to hip-hop and experimental ambient.

Susumu Yokota’s Skintone label takes its name from a series of informal club nights he ran with Alex from Tokyo and Ayako Kataoka.

In the mid-90’s the growing commercialisation of techno in Japan was inevitable, and what was once a close-knit and self-sufficient scene had become a hugely popular cultural export. In response, Tokyo’s underground started to rally and shift again. Smaller more local nights and parties sprang up and Yokota was drawn to them, soon initiating the deep house party night at the recently opened nightspot LUST in Tokyo’s Ebisu district.

Skintone hosted a rotating cast of residents and associates including Yokota’s close friend @ayako_concept, one of the few female DJs in Tokyo at the time. Kataoka remembers; "It was a safe space for our friends and us, and the party had a pure vibe."

"There was a real community of people who were into music and sound [around Skintone]," @alexfromtokyo explains. "Yokota-san made some beautifully designed flyers from his visual artworks [for it, but we never really had to do] any promotion…"

Yokota was lighthearted, down-to-earth, and sometimes self-deprecating. In a scene where many established DJs would cultivate an air of superiority and distance around their work, Yokota would goof around, mix freely with the audience and always make himself available to young Japanese producers and DJs who were finding their footing.

Reflecting on those evenings, Alex from Tokyo remembers them playing a global selection of dub house and deep house records from Herbert, Philippe Zdar and Motorbass, Moodymann, Theo Parrish, Guidance, the Idjut Boys, Ray Mang, Ian Pooley, Two Lone Swordsmen, Isolee, Playhouse, F-Communications, and Paper Recordings. They’d mix them up with disco and deeper left-field techno with an organic feel.

Excited to say I am one of four artists for this year’s Bristol Beacon residency programme (!!)

To be given this opportunity is an honour and something I do not take lightly, thank you for having me @Bristol_beacon

I will be developing a new live show for 2027 & creating my debut studio album. The journey will be a long and treacherous one but I hope to bring you along with me for the lumpy expedition with me 🗻

Psyched to be on this programme alongside old and new friends @lawianywar, @haalband & @javeonmusic and to share these beautiful photos by @12kmedia 📸ft. maybe my new favourite instrument - here I sit inside the beating heart valves of Bristol Beacon’s concert hall, The Britton Organ

I could not have envisioned this without the incredible team of support, witchcraft(?) and writing guidance @mitoshkaa, @ze.zima & @nicola0rg < 3 Dream team amidst everyone else that has encouraged and believed in the weird sounds I congeal. Those close to me know that the application landscape has not always filled me with much enamour so I am especially grateful to sit alongside this absolutely killa alumni community- thank you !!

This feels like the start of a new era & it’s funny how sometimes we don’t know the last one is ending until it already has

Marine Eyes on Susumu Yokota:

"I remember the first time I heard Susumu’s ‘Sakura’ and became transfixed. I was sitting at a San Francisco café in the mid-2000s where the barista would play various ambient music. With the album opener, ‘Saku,’ I could feel the world around me slowing down, and each breath leading to the next just as it was supposed to. Susumu’s speckled drones, tender synths, and swathed guitars bloom subtly and ever so gently lead you to a place of awe and mindfulness."
