What a magical few days! A short trip to Denver with great friends to see @themidnightofficial perform at Mission Ballroom that exceeded all expectations.

The Midnight has been one of my favorite bands for the past decade and when I learned @rhettshull would be joining their touring band, it felt glitch in the Matrix surreal. It was a true joy to not only get to enjoy some of my favorite music with friends, but to get to cheer one on shredding it in epic fashion on stage to a packed venue was *chef’s kiss*.

Thank you, Rhett and @thistilly for including us in your birthday celebration, introducing us to Tyler and the other band members, the backstage/sound check access, and the amazing food experiences. It’s always so great to hang with you two in the not frequent enough opportunities that we have.

Thank you, @amoochna for taking such care of Taco while we were out of town. I often find it difficult to talk myself into traveling in any way that isn’t by car and doesn’t include my anxious, senior dog and it made the trip so much easier for me knowing he was in great hands and settling in with your cute updates.

@unlearnpavement and @jorgegonzestrella, I love you guys so much. This was one of the most fun trips that I had the privilege of experiencing with you two and creating memories that I will never forget. I can’t remember ever laughing so much and every morning we woke up marveling at the previous day. Another repot video. 🤪 I had been dreading repotting this spider plant for a while because all of the spiderettes make it tricky. But it had become quite root bound and was no longer retaining much water. by @loreofkaje

Mid South is most notably known around the world for being an endurance event, but many people leave Stillwater every year feeling it is far greater than that. It warms my heart talking to people that are so invested in a town that they don’t live in & how they describe the way they feel because they have such a welcoming space that they choose to come back & visit so often, if not every year.

This year, a natural disaster put a halt to the weekend’s run/ride. Extremely strong winds spread wild fires west of town & burned many homes down as well as forced evacuations from not only local residents, but many participants from out of town from their hotels/rentals. Runners still on the course in the afternoon had to be picked up for their safety. Local emergency resources were all assisting with wildfires & too strained for it to be feasible to continue & the endurance aspect of the weekend’s festivities had to be cancelled. Beyond the tragedy of the havoc that the wildfires wrought, it was also difficult to watch friends who have put in so much time & effort to welcome 4000+ people into our little city from all over the world with what I can only imagine is a feeling of obligation to not let all of those people down only to see the event have to grind to a halt for circumstances beyond their control. Emotions were definitely heavy.

Despite that, Mid South 2025 still happened. While we may not have gotten to cheer everyone on in pursuit of victory or for accomplishing their own personal achievements, we collectively put all of the less important aspects aside & helped one another where it mattered most. This bike community assisted one another by giving refuge to those that had mandatory evacuations. Many individuals, local businesses, sponsors, & vendors have donated or raised funds for local agencies in support of wildfire relief efforts. Two incredible cyclists rode the Mega Mid South course on Sunday winning back to back FKTs while raising money, as well. Through the stress & unpredictability of it all, we still got to come together & share this space & time with each other with old & new friends alike, which is what makes this event so special to me.
