“By 2030, 30–40 million Nigerian women and girls could be directly targeted by AI deepfakes, impersonation and coordinated harassment every year.” — Gatefield, February 2026

We can’t talk about the future of AI without talking about the women and girls who will live in that future.

AI is already changing the way we learn, work and connect. Our girls need to be part of that conversation, not just on the receiving end of it.

They need to understand AI. Build with it. And have a voice in how it is used.

That’s the conversation we’re bringing to HERIntelligence AI Annual Summit 2026.

Her Future in AI: Equipping Girls for the Digital Economy.

Come join us.

Some evenings are more than just events, they are a gathering of vision, experience, and a shared commitment to the future.

The conversations were insightful, the ideas inspiring, and the collective passion for building a thriving Silicon Plateau was evident throughout the evening. @siliconplateauhq

I got a nomination to enroll in the BlueDot Impact AI Governance course, and this book, AI Does Not Hate You by Tom Chivers, was waybilled to me as part of the programme.

I have just read the introduction and oboy!!! 😳

I thought I was simply going to read another book about AI. But this introduction already has me thinking differently.

One question stood out:

What happens if we create something smarter than us?

Intelligence is what made humans the most successful large animals on the planet. We live across the world in billions, while gorillas—despite being so genetically similar to us—are endangered.

So if we build a machine that is significantly smarter than us, could we end up living at its sufferance, just as gorillas do at ours?

Then came the part about the California fires.

The author describes people living in a cosy little enclave of civilisation while everything around them was burning. Smoke was already drifting over their homes, yet many were still going about their lives. The few who noticed were wearing surgical masks and worrying about asthma.

And the thought that followed really got me:

Are we going to be worrying about the smoke while the whole forest is on fire?

That feels like a powerful metaphor for AI.

We are already debating jobs, productivity, AI tools and regulation. But are we paying enough attention to the possibility that something much bigger could be happening?

Stephen Hawking once said AI could be the best or worst thing to happen to humanity.

And I’ve only read the introduction. 😅 taken in Nigeria by @loretakatoktohomdet

Something amazing happened yesterday.

I received a call from one of my students who graduated two years ago and is now working.

“Ma, I came to Kaduna and I have something to give you.”

It warmed my soul.

Not because of the gift, but because of the thoughtfulness behind it. The fact that, two years after leaving my classroom, he still remembered me and thought to reach out.

For those who still say a teacher’s reward is in heaven, I hope you know that sometimes, we get to experience a little piece of that reward right here on earth.

Teaching is more than delivering lessons. It is about leaving a mark on people’s lives.

And moments like this remind me why I love what I do. ❤️ taken in Nigeria by @loretakatoktohomdet

Attending RISE2026 has been insightful, but the biggest highlight for me was the call for a stronger handshake between academia and industry.

Every year, thousands of Computer Science students graduate from Nigerian universities. Yet, too many leave with good grades but cannot point to a product they have built, deployed, or tested in a real-world environment. At the same time, we continue to face unemployment, insecurity, and many unresolved societal challenges. These are exactly the kinds of problems our graduates should be equipped to help solve.

I believe every course should answer one simple question: “Why am I learning this?” When students understand how a course like System Analysis and Design helps them solve real business problems, learning becomes more than preparing for an examination. It becomes preparation for creating value.

Sometimes I wonder if the popular phrase “school na scam” is really a reflection of this disconnect. When students cannot see how what they learn translates into solving real problems or creating opportunities, education begins to feel disconnected from reality. We have to change that narrative.

This is one reason Stanford University has become a global model for innovation. Beyond teaching theory, it has built an ecosystem where students work closely with industry, conduct applied research, and turn ideas into products and companies. The goal is not for every student to build the next unicorn. The goal is for every student to leave with the confidence and ability to build something that solves a problem.

The rise of AI makes this conversation even more urgent. Today, AI can generate reports, code, and even large portions of a thesis. If our assessment remains largely theoretical, we risk rewarding documentation instead of competence.

Perhaps it is time to rethink what success in higher education looks like.

WhatsApp just added paid subscriptions, and if you haven’t seen that feature yet, you might need to update your app.

But that’s not even the main reason for this post.

I find it interesting how many of these global platforms are gradually introducing more paid features and finding new ways to monetize their user base. From subscriptions to premium tools and exclusive features, the trend is becoming impossible to ignore.

And honestly, maybe that’s not entirely a bad thing.

Maybe it should push us to start paying more attention to local products and homegrown solutions. Maybe it’s time we invested more in building platforms that understand our realities, solve our unique problems, and keep more of the value circulating within our own economy.

Every month, millions of people across Africa spend money on foreign digital products and services. Imagine if even a fraction of that spending went to local innovators, startups, and tech communities. The impact on job creation, innovation, and economic growth would be significant.

Of course, local products must earn that support by being reliable, secure, and genuinely useful. Patriotism alone cannot replace quality. But as users, investors, founders, and builders, we should be asking ourselves:

What would it take for us to confidently choose local alternatives?

The future of our digital economy won’t be built by complaining about foreign platforms. But rather by creating products so good that people choose them willingly.

Most businesses are adopting AI backwards.

They start with the tool instead of the problem.

AI is not a strategy.

AI is a multiplier.

If your systems are clear, AI amplifies results.

If your systems are broken, AI amplifies confusion.

Before implementing AI, ask:

What specific problem are we solving?

That’s where real transformation begins.

Honored to have joined an exceptional group of ecosystem leaders, innovators, and change-makers as a panelist at the Silicon Plateau Ecosystem Enablers Dinner.

What made the evening special was the shared commitment to building a stronger technology ecosystem for Plateau State through collaboration, innovation, and meaningful conversations. It was inspiring to exchange ideas with brilliant minds from different sectors, all working toward a common vision.

Grateful to the organizers for creating such a valuable platform. The future of Silicon Plateau is exciting, and I’m glad to be part of the journey.

This semester, I’ve been teaching Emerging Technology this semester and I won’t lie, it’s been one of my favorite classes.

Within the week we were talking about smart technologies and somehow it turned into a full debate on whether AI will replace humans.

You can imagine the arguments.

That conversation took us into Reinforcement Learning and it made things even more interesting.

We talked about how AI learns from feedback, improves with experience, and keeps adjusting based on what it’s trying to achieve.

We even used The Incredibles, Mr. Incredible and Omnidroid as an example to break it down.

At some point I had to pause and ask them, if AI is learning from systems designed by humans, how far can it really go on its own?

Those are the moments I enjoy the most.
When the class stops being a lecture and starts becoming a real conversation.

This particular school became very dear to me after hearing the stories of these children. Many of them have lost their parents during the insurgency, yet they still show up to learn.

Our organization @herintelligence is committed to empowering through technology. But visiting this school was eye-opening. There is no computer lab, no structured computer classes, and out of over a hundred students gathered, only one had ever heard the word Artificial Intelligence.

So we have decided to take a new approach towards supporting this school, and in the coming days, we will share with you how you can partner with us to build a basic IT infrastructure for these students.

Please do not hold back.
Remember, this year, we are giving to gain.

I’ve always wanted to post this, but I kept telling myself “everyone knows this already.” My experience online proves me wrong every time. So, here you go!

If you sell your products online in 2026, you already know the potential is huge. You can sell much more than a physical shop just by being reachable on your phone.

But here is the truth.
Many people are doing it the wrong way.
It is getting harder to know who is real and who is a scammer. With “Deepfakes” and fake pages everywhere, customers are scared to buy. If you look like a “ghost vendor” with no face and no real photos, you are losing money.

What makes you different from a scammer is honesty. If you want people to trust you enough to pay you, try these 4 simple things:

• Stop using “perfect” internet photos. Take the photos yourself with your own phone and put your name on them. Real, raw photos prove that the items are actually in your hands.

• Pick a “Signature Spot.” Use the same corner or background for all your shoots. When people see that familiar background every time, they start to feel like your business has a real home.

• Since AI can fake photos so easily now, jump on video camera. Show your face, talk about the product, and show the details. It is very hard for a scammer to fake a real personality.

• Finally, just put the price out there. We have “edit” buttons for a reason! Hiding the price only makes people suspicious. If the price changes later, you can just update the post.

If your sales are slow, it might not be your product. It might just be that people can’t tell if you are real.

Every day is women’s day, but March 8 gives us a moment to pause and pour into one another.

I am grateful for the chance to share knowledge with women in business who show up ready to grow. In spaces like this, giving and gaining happen at the same time. We exchange ideas, learn from each other, and leave stronger than we arrived.
