POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I opened up more than ever about my journey in this interview. Read about how I went from garage band/gospel band guitarist and live sound engineer - to an unexpected cancer diagnosis that forced me to flip fear into determination and dive head first into the unknown. Link in bio šŸ”—

A lot of folks know about my extensive film score engineering work on major films and video games at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Studios. They also know about my work producing drums, guitars & vocals with the famous Sylvia Massy, recording & mixing bands from around the world – and my work with the legendary Steve Jablonsky. However, not everyone knows about the truly intense and humbling journey that got me here. Nor do they know about how an unexpected life event forever changed the trajectory of my life.

Has it been easy? No. Would I do it all again? Absolutely.

These experiences built who I am today.

I hope this inspires someone out there. I also hope this shares a little bit of hope during such a dark time. (spoiler alert - this story has a positive ending)

Stay curious, stay tenacious, stay kind and happy music making amigos! by @lori__castro

I want to thank everyone for all of the love and messages of support on the opening of my new custom built 5.1 mix room. So many years of pure hard work, sacrifice and dedication finally got me here and I’m grateful.

Whether it be album mixes or film score projects of any size - I personally built my room to handle it all.

It’s almost the end of the year and I’m so grateful to all of the artists and composers who have sent their projects my way to collaborate and mix on.

My team and I care a lot about how your music and vision is handled, making sure you’re heard and getting ahead of any curve balls your production schedules might throw your way.

With almost 20 years in total working on the audio tech and music production side of the glass - across live sound, records and film scores, I’ve seen a lot. I’ve also been a part of crafting customized solutions for just about every challenge faced on these large and tight deliveries and happy to help you and your team however we can, regardless of deadline obstacles.

If you think you might need my help and our small but mighty team to jump in with you on your next project - contact me at the link in my bio. Happy music making !

So many people asking when the next HUDDLE SESSION will be and I am aiming by the end of the year. My schedule is slammed but I can’t wait to plan another one with more hands on training at the center of it next. The biggest feedback I got was ā€œthis was the most diverse group I’ve ever been in and I’m part of a lot of events in townā€ this made me both grateful and sad at the same time. We deserve spaces where ALL artists feel seen, safe, heard and included. It’s a choice to both build this way and actively make it so during an event. I’m glad this space can be that for everyone and it’s my core mission above all else. I know firsthand what it is like to be in the industry but still feel like an outsider in almost every room that you walk into. Know I’m working on building another one inbetween my packed in schedule. This is my passion work and every bit of this is built with intention and from my very own pocket. And yes - it’ll remain free. True honest Mentorship for young people should be free.

Special thanks to @squeakecleanstudios for being amazing for this event as well šŸ’™. The team there is always the best of the very best . by @lori__castro

Rest in peace to the legendary Peter Cullen. So many memories hearing his voice , the voice of my childhood and also the voice of some of the biggest movies I got to work on. 12 year old me would not believe that years later, I would eventually get to be a recording engineer and technical audio lead on the transformers movies alongside my dear friend Steve Jablonsky. Working on these were some of the most intense months but also greatly rewarding getting to work beside the best of the best crews in post production. An honor I am grateful for and carry with me to this day. Thank you Peter for your voice šŸ’™ thank you @jablonsky_steve for your score that had all of us feeling like Peter was speaking directly to the best of us. by @lori__castro

Due to folks asking - YES I am part of the Union Local 700 and have been for many many years now. (I’ve added that important info to my bio as a reminder). Years ago I worked a tremendous amount of hours on a ton of huge projects and was accepted into the Union. It’s no easy task. I’ve been on the Union roster since my extensive audio engineering work on Transformers long ago - working under my dear friend Steve Jablonsky. Hell of a lot of hours, high level and pristine work for many years in order be accepted and super grateful for that. So yes, to answer your questions … your friendly neighborhood audio engineer and mixer can do both Union and non-union work. by @lori__castro

My poolside reading for the summer. Time to level up my smoked bbq recipes.

Every time someone asks me for specifically Texas style BBQ that tastes like my home town - I take them to @bludsosbbq. It tastes like home and they even got the Shiner and proper southern banana pudding to pair. Best of the best from @kevinbludsobbq šŸ”„ by @lori__castro

Celebrating our anniversary in small ways, all month of July was a cool adventure and it flew by quick. Who knew that a quick lunch date with a stranger during a super rainy day in DTLA many years ago - would one day turn into all of this??! šŸ’™ 16 year old me would be so happy to see what life looks like now and the life that we both have created together. Happy anniversary to us. ā€œTo infinity and beyondā€ as our son would say 🌈 by @lori__castro

I missed my window to join back in 2012 so I’m very excited to share that I’ve finally joined the Recording Academy’s 2026 New Member Class.

It’s an honor to be part of a community of music creators and professionals who are helping support, uplift, and advocate for the people who make and shape music.

Thank you to my longtime and dearest friends Sylvia Massy, Joe Fitzgerald, Shruti Kumar and Lili Haydn for making sure that I joined this year and for your relentless support. Proud to join you all.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to use my voice, contribute to the Grammy Awards process, and be part of conversations that help move our industry forward.

Music is shaped by so many voices, genres, backgrounds, and perspectives, and I’m proud to add mine to the mix.

I want to thank everyone who came to my first HUDDLE SESSION. You brought brave questions and didn’t hold back. I was asked a ton of awesome , deep dive questions that only reinforces the need for a mentorship centered space where our next generation of music creators can ask questions in a safe and welcoming session. And no matter what we are told - our younger generation is tenacious, passionate, creative, kind , humble and deeply curious and super talented. I’m beyond impressed and grateful to help them however I can. And I am also inspired.

I want to thank @squeakecleanstudios for creating a studio space that holds firm to inclusive spaces and feels like home every time that we walk in the door.

Thank you to @elle__graham for your guidance on making sure this was as great as it can be. And to @mixerchristiannn for your relentless support. Thank you to @neumann.berlin and @digitalaudiodenmark for your amazing atmos room.

Thank you to @jasonsoudah for volunteering your time to be a 2nd mentor, being generous with your advice in this session and giving a quick mastering demo to our guests. And for laughing at all of my jokes :)

GO TEAM āš½ļø

If you came to the team session please send me your next round of questions for the next HUDDLE SESSION (info@loricastro.com). This is a team led experience. Your curiosity/questions will help build the subjects we touch on for each event. This isn’t a podcast panel about us - it’s all about YOU. Your questions and concerns.

I hope you left with some new tools in the toolbox, new perspectives, inspiration and most importantly- new friends to make music with.

Keep music human and keep being curious. See you all on the next one āš½ļø

When I first moved from Texas to California a very VERY long time ago .. the first artist I worked with as an intern and an assistant engineer in a studio here was with Jason. We spent weeks in the studio together and it was a relief to find a good friend in a new place and talk all things music and audio. We’ve been friends ever since. Years later I’d move to LA to see if I could make it in this city and Jason and his wife kindly let me sleep on their couch for a little while to catch some good sleep as I was previously living out of my car. Jason would also drive me around to drop off my resumes at studios , knowing I couldn’t afford gas at the time. He’d keep reminding me ā€œif they could just meet you and read your resume and see your work … then they’d know you’re more than qualified to be here.ā€ Early in my career , he was an advocate for me in spaces that I wouldn’t otherwise be allowed in. I didn’t fit the demographic and statistically wasn’t supposed to be there . He saw my talent and made sure someone saw my resume.

And this is why I’m proud to say that my audio brother Jason Soudah was my very first HUDDLE SESSION guest. A full circle moment. Thank you Jason for practicing what you preach. For truly being an advocate for people that aren’t seen and for being a bright light in our industry with a true mentor heart.

These HUDDLE SESSIONS aren’t your usual panel format, it’s sharing the room with my friends and trusted fellow teammates in the industry that I can honestly speak to their integrity, I’ve been in the trenches with on projects and that I know can truly be a great mentor to guide our next generation. Guidance based on kindness, tenacity, true teamwork and strong experience. Thank you to all that came and opened up with your questions . I hope you went back home with some new tools in your toolbox and some new friends to make music with along the way. HUGE thank you to the amazing team at @squeakecleanstudios for your studio sanctuary. And for being my favorite studio in town. See you on the next HUDDLE! by @lori__castro
