Frida Kahlo is one of the most influential Latina artists in the world and it’s been a complete pleasure to immerse myself in her work and create hand painted artwork for this beautiful story!

What a year it’s been! Thanks to everyone who checked-out, bought, shared, or even just clicked ‘like’ on any of these children’s books from this past year: May Your Life be Deliciosa, Who Dug This Hole?, and Phenomenal AOC! Every message was read with joy and gratitude.

I feel incredibly lucky to be doing this for a living and to be able to work with amazing publication teams that work so hard to get these stories in the hands of readers of all ages. Thank you to all the teams over at @cameron_kids, @abramskids, @harperkids and of course the wonderful authors I’ve had the privilege of sharing these books with @michaelgenhart, @authorlauragehl, and @anika_aldamuy_denise.

I teamed up with Mondo Llama to create this Halloween themed artwork for their Halloween paint set. I had so much fun working with the paint set colors (which included glitter!) to create bold and colorful Halloween characters!

Just made it on time for #kidlitpostcard day!

Illustrating sad/quiet moments with can be a challenge sometimes. After a streetcar accident left a young Frida Kahlo bedridden, she spent most of her time painting, surrounding herself in her own creativity.

As a visual storyteller, the quiet moments provide you with an opportunity to play with color, mood, conceptual imagery. I love that I got to play with moody magentas and blues while showing this important moment in Frida’s life.

From the archives! One of my favorite surface design projects was working with the always awesome @icreature and their IC & Friends T-Shirt Club.

My design was a a love letter to analog and the various tools we use to create! Using the pink shirt material as a color and bringing in hand made textures was a really fun challenge in creating a balanced design. by @loris_lora
