One of the biggest changes from 2011 to 2026 marathon training? I’m not rummaging through a gym bag last minute looking for a hopefully non-expired gel or two before a long run. Fueling is no longer an afterthought.

There’s been lots of changes over the years to get stronger, consistent and yes faster - but mid run fueling is probably one of the biggest. It’s also relatively low hanging fruit in the grand scheme of things.

Today’s long run was roughly 94g/carbs per hour between gels and fluids. That is not even including my pre run high carb drink and breakfast. 2011 me, would neverrrrr.

Being their mom is the greatest gift. But giving them each other is the biggest gift I could ever give.

That’s a wrap on our first full year of Webster softball. 🥎💛

Last summer, Hannah came home saying she wanted to try softball because two older girls she looked up to played. We signed her up for WAA fall ball, and after one practice, she was hooked. When the opportunity came to join the Webster Xtreme 8U travel team, she rose to the occasion.

Watching her grow over the past year has honestly been one of my favorite parts of parenthood.

I still remember her first game in April. She was so nervous she was literally shaking while putting on her batting gloves. Fast forward a few months, and she’s confidently stepping into the batter’s box loading her bat with a “nuke,” earned MVP in two games this season, and caught every inning of every game at this past weekend’s tournament. But more than any of that, I’ve watched her confidence grow. That’s been my favorite part.

Something else that’s cool? I never played softball growing up, so we got to learn together. Backyard games of catch, figuring out the rules, learning game-day hairstyles, and celebrating every little improvement.

And then there was me…learning how to be a working sports mom.

Dinner out of Tupperware at the fields. Packing what felt like the entire house into the car. Sometimes getting my own run in by running to the field before first pitch. Taking client calls and writing offers between innings. It wasn’t always graceful, but somehow it all worked.

I’m going to cheer loudly—not because I’m thinking about where softball might take her someday, but because that’s my kid out there. I’m all in, right there with her no matter what.

We’re so grateful to Webster Athletic Association, Webster Xtreme, the incredible coaches, teammates, and families who made our first year so special.

Here’s to folding chairs, packed cars, Tupperware dinners, writing offers between innings, little sisters losing teeth at the ballfield, and a year we’ll never get back and wouldn’t trade for anything.

Bring on 10U. 💛🥎 taken in Webster (town), New York by @losingrace

Boston was 2.5 weeks ago and honestly when I think back on the weekend, I keep coming back to the people. 🤍

My sister, who was the absolute best race support all weekend and somehow always knew exactly what I needed before I did.

Getting to spend time with athletes and friends at the Mckirdy group run and throughout the weekend reminded me how connected this sport really is.

Then my athletes racing - Julie running a 90 second PR, this hills of PGH clearly making her strong! Michelle running an incredibly paced 3:18, her second fastest marathon and on a tougher course! Amy earning her spot in the fastest Boston field ever as a qualifier and still going sub-4 on a tough day, on a course where that once felt like the dream goal. Marcela running another smart, steady Boston as we get ready to shift gears and chase some speed this summer. I am beyond proud.

And a longtime athlete and friend Abby being there cheering and supporting her husband and everyone else was really special too ❤️

I was also so excited to run into Emma Bates before the race and chat about being running moms. Then seeing her again on course and getting a high five from her at just the right moment was such a needed boost.

And lastly… Banana Man. 🍌
Thank you for giving me (and a lot of others) something to laugh about in my finish photos and videos. But for the record, I still beat you by 2 minutes chip time.

Boston is hard, emotional, messy, incredible. But the people are what make it magical 💙💛 taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @losingrace

As I watched my sister run over to me post race after I hobbled to the common, I could see the look on her face. She was so excited but she knows me well - she was trying to take my temperature. Was I happy or was I upset. She hugged me and sat down facing me when she took this picture and then she got to hear it all, she was exactly what I needed.

The truth is, I was happy and I wasn’t - and a few days later the answer is still the same. I’m also fully okay with admitting that. I care so much, and that isn’t something I’ll ever apologize for.

I missed a very realistic goal on a beautiful day where everyone around me was flying. I knew it early and that made for a long day - there was no locking in, it was constant negotiations while simultaneously trying to embrace and celebrate what I was able to do. I’m allowed to feel things about that. Am I also really proud of another marathon finish, another sub 3, another Boston, a 9 minute Boston PR, OF COURSE! Holy shit there’s a lot to celebrate, and I did and will continue to.

But the day I don’t care in some way shape or form that I missed a goal I set for myself, is the day I’ll hang up my racing shoes.

So for whoever needs this reminder: It could always be better. It could always be worse. Someone’s always done more, and someone would kill to do the things you can do. None of those things mean your feelings aren’t valid. Being happy and sad at the same time is human.

If you need me I’ll be over here happy and celebrating while recovering but also plotting and scheming. It’s not a bad place to be. Humble and hungry ❤️

25th marathon ✔️
5th Boston ✔️
2:55:05
9 minute course PR

Legs said absofuckinglutely not today maam. I’ll give them a D, maybe a C+ if we’re being generous.

I was a little off my B goal of 2:54 so we will go B- for time.

But heart and grit. I’m gonna give myself an A+

I high fived hundreds of kids. I did the YMCA. I sang and danced to Pink Pony Club (@accordingtomeesh saw me mid chorus 😂), I hyped the crowd anytime I needed a push whenever I was contemplating dying, and I finished full of pride and gratitude.

15 years ago today, I ran my first marathon.

I was 22, and I had no idea what that day would start. In fact I really thought my marathon journey started and ended that day.

24 marathons later (soon to be 25), I don’t think that version of me would believe this life.

That we kept going.
That we ran 57 minutes faster.

But more than that… I don’t think she would understand how much running would change me.

It used to be an escape.
A way to run away from things.

Now, it’s where I work through them.
Where I sit in the discomfort.
Where I come out stronger on the other side.

Motherhood and marathons.
The two things that have shaped me the most.

March 26th will always be a special day to me. 🤍

20 miles on black beauty today and felt damn good. Did pace work, hill work, fueling practice, and yes some jamming to tunes with my cardboard support crew in full force. I learned to embrace the treadmill 15 years ago training for my first marathon, one of the best things I ever did.

50 days until Boston Marathon - which, yes I am running this year (‼️)…surprise, I guess? 🤷‍♀️ I made the very last minute decision (15 minutes before registration closed) in September. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel post Houston but mentally I was ready to go back. I was supposed to run my 5th Boston in 2024 but life had other plans (and I’m still so at peace with that decision).

The fun part is, this will be my 5th Boston and 25th marathon - so you bet your a$s I’ll be celebrating this one a little extra ❤️

Watching my daughters cheer each other on reminds me why women’s sports matter.

Confidence. Strength. Joy. Belonging.

I get to run. I get to coach.
They get to see what’s possible.

Happy National Girls & Women in Sports Day 🤍

Now that the dust has settled and it’s been a few weeks since Houston, I’ve had more time to reflect—and I’m just really grateful for that weekend.

Grateful for the travel and running in a new city.

For time spent with other runners, athletes, and friends.

For the opportunity to run another marathon—and my 10th sub-3 (that was a fun realization after the fact!)

I’m even grateful for the finish line tears, which I realize now had very little to do with missing a goal and everything to do with letting it all out after a really challenging few months.

Grateful for letting loose post-race.
For cheering on my favorite football team with a longtime friend.
For being surrounded by an incredible Bills community at a backers bar in downtown Houston ❤️💙

And, of course, grateful to come home to my little loves.

Some weekends stay with you for all the right reasons. 🤍
