First up: Philadelphia Cycling Classic.

We interviewed Carlos Rogers (@losrogers ) about what it took to bring this iconic race back, then headed to Philly to experience it firsthand with Project Echelon - US Crit and Canadian Road Race Champs (@projectechelonracing ).

After a decade hiatus, Philadelphia’s iconic bike race returns Sunday. The race kicked off in 1985 and became infamous for the steep, 17% grade “Manayunk Wall,” which drew competitors from around the globe as a warm up to the Tour de France.

But as corporate sponsorship interest dwindled and security costs increased, organizers ceased operations after the 2016 race. That didn’t sit well with Carlos Rogers. The amateur cyclist and hair salon owner had an against-all-odds dream to revive the event.

During a live event this week at Love City Brewing, Studio 2 unpacked the behind-the-scenes story of how he willed it back to life. by @losrogers

Known for two decades as the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic, the race kicked off in 1985 and became infamous for the steep, 17% grade “Manayunk Wall,” which drew competitors from around the globe as a warm up to the Tour de France.

Ahead of the race, Studio 2 invites you to a live broadcast event at @lovecitymanayunk on Thursday, August 27th as we unpack the significance of the return of the classic and the behind-the-scenes story of how it happened.

Audience members must arrive by 11:40 a.m. ahead of the live broadcast. After the program, all attendees can enjoy a drink on us!

Before the Philadelphia Cycling Classic showed a single sign of life, race Co-Founder Carlos was the only one on the lonely road carrying it forward.

When riders start the long climb up the Manayunk Wall later this month, that may seem like a distant memory.
