MAPPING BUOYANCY 1-4
blot print, beeswax and oil on panel 20” x 16”

Hello! I’m just landing back into my life after an extended and very nourishing trip to New York, an odyssey really! Already, I’m heading north for the opening of Intersections this Saturday. I’ve been showing in Seattle since 2011, and I’m excited to share my first solo exhibition at Lost In Composition Gallery (@lostincomposition). I’ll be there from 1–3 pm and would love to see you.

These four Mapping Buoyancy paintings at the center of the exhibition began while I was working on Finding Buoyancy, my September exhibition at Imogen Gallery in Astoria. Each are 20” x 16”. I made them using two ancient, analog processes, printmaking and encaustic. Over time, I’d collected fragments and castoffs in the studio from prints I had blotted with tissue paper I’d made using images of particles colliding in a bubble chamber. Over time, I collected the blot print cast offs from the press to use as collage materials to incorporate into new compositions, and layered beeswax and oil over them. Some of the printed marks are still visible, while others almost disappear into the surface.

This is where the ancient and the contemporary meet for me. Scientific instruments make movements we could never see with the naked eye visible. Printmaking and encaustic let me work with those images by hand. The past becomes part of the present quite literally. Pieces of earlier prints are still there, carrying marks from the work they came from and taking on new meaning alongside the marks I make now.

The buoy first took shape in my work through those particle images. Now I see a buoy every day from my studio window over the Columbia River. I keep coming back to the way it moves with the current while staying anchored. It helps us find our bearings on the river, and it’s become a way for me to think about finding my own through change.

@Shana Levenson did an incredible job with this one! We’re getting it framed so it can hang in the gallery. It’s available now. #licgallerysea #artcollector #contemporaryart #artgallery #seattle by @lostincomposition

Sébastien Gaudette is a phenomenal trompe l’oeil artist. These two are hanging in the gallery right now. We have other pieces by him! #licgallerysea #artcollector #contemporaryart #artgallery #seattle by @lostincomposition

One thing I adore about this guy is that he challenges himself endlessly. In prep for our trip to NYC he thought, what if I could finish three new pieces on the heels of just having a show in Portland in preparation for the Holiday Group show @patricia_rovzar_gallery in Seattle? And he did it!!!! Meanwhile, I finished new work and prepared it for transport to my show “Intersections” opening @lostincomposition in Seattle November 7th. We did it!

We are two peas in a pod of making, all finished, packed and ready for the next series of adventures. It is not without hard work! I’m amazed and thrilled and can’t wait for what comes next.

🎉Special invite for you✨

Join me on November 7, 2026 from 1-3 pm at @lostincomposition for the opening reception of my first solo exhibition “Intersections” with the newly opened, LIC Gallery in Seattle, 908 Alaskan Way. I’ve shown my work in the Seattle area since 2011 and I’m excited to invite my Seattle area collectors to visit my work in this new space in the heart of @waterfrontsea.

✨About The Show:

“Intersections” brings together works that connect receding glaciers, celestial movement, currents, and the trajectories of colliding particles. These subjects become an evolving visual language of circles, intersecting lines, and shifting fields.
At the center of the exhibition are four recent Mapping Buoyancy paintings.

They bring these investigations together through the image of the buoy, a form in my work that originated in images of particle collisions recorded in a bubble chamber and has evolved through my observations of river navigation. The buoy becomes both a point of orientation and a symbol of resilience, responding to movement while remaining anchored.

Across these works, mapping is an ongoing act of observation and discovery. The intersections between the microscopic, terrestrial, and celestial offer ways to consider our own position within a world in continual motion.
