โ€œAntarctic Energy Gatewayโ€ Unprocessed, as it was seen. First Share/Fave moment so far of med. format journey. I never could imagine such beauty could exist in a single image until I reviewed it later that evening. The clouds, the light, the island. That dusk, a cool misty rain rolled into a baked landscape. The island sentinel, nharwal like, a force of wisdom in the landscape, witness to the path of eons of whales and sea creatures, and oceanic energy. An eye, that looks north-east, across the beauty of Wildness, behind it, an ethereal Antarctic Energy in the distance. Marvelled upon it many times whilst riding the waves that refract off it. Now tryna understand it. There are very precious and serious amounts of spiritual energy in this area, profound, inexplicable, and far more intelligent than Humans could ever comprehend. Chaotic, yet immensely orderly. It is a window to another world. If you experience it properly, you will be downloaded immense and overwhelming energy. Please protect this place. Luckily, its wildness will turn many away, but sometimes I worry, not enough. โ€œWhen you go out there you donโ€™t get away from it all, you get back to it all. You come home to whatโ€™s important, you come home to yourself.โ€ Peter Dombrovskis โ€” Battle for the Franklin, 1981. This is the first image I ever took with my @hasselblad #x2d2100c , purposefully, from a thicket near the mighty Franklin River, Tasmania, in April this year, before immersing in the river (ref image 2, which I will share uncropped later). If you werenโ€™t aware, this river, and its surrounds, was to be dammed by the Tasmanian Hydro Electric commission in the 1980s, it is a place of such beauty and power, that no words could ever express. A river that speaks to the unparalleled beauty and majesty and challenge of nature in its wildest essence. It is also the site of one of the greatest, if not the greatest, environmental battles, and victories, in humanities existence. It was always my dream, to use a medium format camera, and to respect my heroes, especially Peter Dombrovskis, whose image, โ€˜Rock Island Bendโ€™; chosen by Bob Brown of the @bobbrownfoundation is world renowned for being a catalyst and internationally recognised spiritual vector during the Wild Rivers campaign. Peterโ€™s soul now resides amongst and above the wild landscapes of Western Tasmania, where he took his last breath, high upon its ragged ranges; his achievements so pure and everlasting, protecting that which now many a visitor can experience, and many a species, can enjoy without the threat of greed. Into the heart of darkness where the most shimmering of light exists. Approaching Precipitous Change over the Needles The quiltwork expanse of the Flozza lay ahead, a mish match of humanities most putrid and destructive of impulses, whilst stands of towering wet eucalyptus forest, and the Regnans sentinels, loom. Behind, the days memories of purity, crystal clear rivers, waters embrace, over fern lined gullies, where the sounds of pebbles rolling over each other, compliment the echoes of birdsong in the greatest amphitheater of wildness. An ancient stadium of nothingness, where everything exists, to offset the failed throws of barbarism, defeated by the immense crags of nature and humanities rarest will. Across the valley, the untamed and untouched wild expanse of Western Lutruwita, with all its magic and charms, awaits the brave. The dreams of many wild beings and magics should never be trashed by the ignorance of the disconnected and fearful. The Moment / At the edge of the unknowable. Trudged in Sleet. 10-12 degrees. A remote bend well, well away from civilisation. Ice Cold Brine Immersion and Swim. Sideways Rain, swirling river, indeed, one of, if not the, last wild river in the state. Sad in one way, but more beautiful, in the other. A shifting westerly screams overhead, and the rain buckets down again, a towel must be placed over the lens and tripod, standing at one with the river, but the capture is created despite the elements, which provides for a certain euphoria which is everything to me, as it always has been. These moments in the Australian wild, in any wild. Home. Albeit I would never claim to be on such footing as the great man, this image reminds me of my favourite picture, the famous, โ€˜Rock Island Bendโ€™, by Peter Dombrovskis, in its misty mood, and in many ways, its thematic, and reiterates to me that through seeking what I seek during these journeys into the wild, I have the chance to be part of, and capture magic, thus moving on a crystal clear path. The mystery of these places is what makes them. Where others feel misery in the elements, I feel pure joy, that it may turn others away, whilst it nourishes the landscape and the soul. I salute the forgotten and living beings who worked to help protect. This image was captured in Medium Format. 3am in the Wilderness during the August New Moon. โ™พ๏ธ The sky was possibly the clearest I have ever seen it aside from some low cloud on the horizon, towards Antarctica. Good combo of timing following a cold front in Winter, which means exceptionally clean air especially here, which is amongst the cleanest air on earth. A bit of a mission to get out there ๐ŸคŒ and dropping in there down under a blanket of stars with a cool northerly whipping in and the thunder of the ocean. Access to phenomenal Universe energy. I was keen to test out the #hasselbladx2d100c with the XCD25V lens which I got from @cameraelectronic , quite pleased with the results the colour on this camera is phenomenal with Astro wtf, and there was for sure a red airglow in the night that evening, a large streak of it.
