In the summer of 2023, we set out to document what we wanted to call The DLS Grandtour. We were riding the high off our first YouTube video (@buna.cars DLS) and wanted to do this ambitious project of following @buna.cars @greatytnorth and @cervelophil on their road trip from Vancouver to Monterey car week. We drove from Toronto to Vancouver to Monterey and back to Toronto, racking up over 10,000km. Barely slept, ate, drank water, and endured a 105f heatwave on the way back with a broken ac (had to dump gas station ice on our backs as we drove the 40 hours straight back). All for the disappointing result of nothing.

The video project, was a total wash. We were way out of our depth, under prepared, and lacked the skill and competency to pull off what we wanted. The final result never saw the light of day ( not that there was even a final edit to speak of).
But despite it being a complete train wreck, almost everything we do right today comes from what went wrong back then.

If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t change a thing.

PS. Rest in peace to Ralph (first slide). He was one of the amazing people we met him on this trip - he unfortunately passed away earlier this year. taken in Pacific Coast Highway by @louislphoto

Cadillac Vistiq Spec - Directed & Edited by me, DP & Colour by @louislphoto.

As someone who primarily does more documentary pieces, I’ve always been used to shooting things “run & gun,” so getting to slow it down and conceptualize every shot and its intention was a fun challenge for this one.

Lots learned, lots more to learn.
