🤍 just a girl and her endless love for books

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This is a book that is perfect for a cosy night in. I almost wish I’d saved it for the depths of winter a mug of hot chocolate beside me, curled up under a big fluffy blanket, with freshly baked gingerbread waiting on the coffee table. Have I set the scene well? Because that’s exactly what this book felt like. 🤎❄️✨

I’ll be honest, it didn’t blow me away. There’s nothing particularly revolutionary about it, but I don’t think every book needs to be. Sometimes, you just need something heartwarming that allows you to escape for a little while, and this definitely delivered that.

I didn’t love the first book in this series, but I wanted to give this one a chance, and I definitely enjoyed it much more. I really liked the characters, and Mac and Annie’s relationship and their individual journeys through life felt incredibly real to me. I especially related to Mac and his feelings of being a little bit lost in your 20s that uncertainty of not quite knowing where you’re going or what you’re supposed to be doing.

If I had to describe this book in one word, it would be: cosy. So if that’s what you’re looking for then I definitely recommend it.

🌊 🇬🇷 If Greece wasn’t already on my travel bucket list it absolutely is now. The setting of a small Greek island was one of my favourite things about this book, I was transported there every time I picked up the book.

There was a big focus in the book on starting over which is why the main character escaped to Greece but I liked that in the end she learned to adapt and keep the good parts of life rather than completely starting over which made it feel much more real.

The final 50 or so pages were a whirlwind that I didn’t actually enjoy. It felt like a plot line that was thrown in and I think the book didn’t necessarily need it?

I preferred the smaller moments at the start when Alisha and Helios were sitting on their balconies, showing the power of silence. Connecting without having to exchange words.

Overall this was a great and easy summer read!

A huge thankyou to @tandemcollectiveuk for the gifted copy! I loved the opportunity to discuss this book with the group 📚 #bookclub #bookreview #tandemcollectiveuk #betweengreekbalconies by @lousnewchapter

You can tell how much research, thought and effort TJR put into this novel. She has such a talent for making every character feel completely real. I genuinely felt like I was sat in the stands watching Carrie play, and like I could open social media and see that she’d just won Wimbledon.

The quote above really encapsulates Carrie Soto. She isn’t necessarily lovable, and she’s certainly not a traditional protagonist, but that’s what I loved about her. She’s raw, real and absolutely lives up to her Battle Axe name. Watching her grow and change throughout the book was honestly so lovely.

And her relationship with her dad 🥹 One of my favourite parts of the whole book. Even the side characters, like Bowe and Gwen, felt so well written and real.

TJR has done it again! 4 ⭐️ from me! 🎾

I’m actually surprised by how much I loved this ✨🖤 I don’t normally read fantasy, but I absolutely devoured this. The idea of a hidden library where you can step through a book and actually live inside its world?? Dream job, honestly.

Alix discovers the Astral Library after her life completely falls apart, and gets to jump into worlds like Sherlock Holmes and Jane Austen. I’m now fully dreaming of this library being real and choosing me so I can skip my way through book worlds too… and obviously I’d be making a beeline for Mr Darcy 😉

It was pure escapism, wonderfully written and kept me gripped the whole way through. And I loved that it was so snappy and well paced no unnecessary dragging it out. I will absolutely be reading more from Kate Quinn’s now ✨

I had such a love/hate relationship with this book 😅 The chemistry between Asher and Scarlett was definitely a highlight though — they were SO cute together, and I loved how he treated her like a princess 🥹💕 Ana Huang really does know how to create characters you can’t help but love.

My biggest issue was the length. It felt way too long, and there were definitely parts that I felt didn’t need to be there. I also expected a little more character development considering how long the book was.

Ana Huang is still one of my favourite romance authors, and I’ll definitely be continuing this series, but unfortunately this one wasn’t a favourite for me! 🫶🏼

Bride by Ali Hazelwood 🤍

This book was an addictive read. It’s very different from the author’s previous books, but I loved those, so I wanted to give this one a go. I really enjoyed the first third of the book and was intrigued by where the story was going. However, it did start to go downhill a little from then on.

I really struggled to connect with the characters; I just wasn’t invested in them or their relationship. I think they could have benefited from a bit more development, and there could also have been more world-building, especially considering it’s a paranormal fantasy.

Fantasy isn’t a genre I read often, so this may have contributed to why I didn’t love the book. Overall, it was an enjoyable read with good pacing, but it felt a little rushed. #bookreview #books #alihazelwood #review by @lousnewchapter
