Time to hop in and get the shot!

Some Bloody Marys are worth travelling for.

The one served at @chitwachitwa in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve is certainly one of them.

It’s become something of a ritual for guests, a beautifully crafted Bloody Mary enjoyed in one of Africa’s most extraordinary settings.

Once upon a time, every hotel, bar, supermarket and game lodge had a tomato cocktail on the shelf.

We just thought it deserved an upgrade.

Marty’s was created as a modern tomato cocktail – made for people who really love good Bloody Marys.

So it was a pretty special moment when we discovered that the iconic Bloody Mary served at Chitwa Chitwa is made with Marty’s.

The funny part?

We only found out by accident.

Magic Safari photographer, @louwlemmer had written a beautiful piece about the experience, but simply referred to “tomato juice”. Curious, we got in touch to ask whether it might have been Marty’s.

He wasn’t sure...

...until he dug through his photographs and found the pour.

There it was. ❤️🍅

You know what?

Overthinking can go and get wrecked. And stay there.

Been sitting on so much gold that I never shared. All because of an obsession with "perfection."

Last night someone told me: "you don't do for yourself what you do for brands. Why not?"

It sure as hell landed in the gut, and hard. So I grabbed the 2023 hard drive and started grading some of the photos from the Europe road trip @christine_lemmer and I did.

Would you believe it, there's some pretty nice pics in there. I'll be sharing them. But I'm also hungry to shoot new ones. So if you have an idea and willingness, pop a comment or a DM and let's plan something.

Anyone else digging those views in their 30s?

Croatia has many radical views dude.

My advice, Old Town in Split is totally underrated. Oh and visit, Cavtat. It's a village an hours drive from Dubrovnik en-route to Montenegro. The drive there is absolutely insane.

I shot these using a vintage Soviet manual focus lens.

Yesterday I wrote about missed opportunities. Starting to think it should be framed as "tradeoffs" instead. That's how I'd summarise shooting with a lens like this.

You sacrifice just about every technological advantage that a modern lens provides. Is it worth it? In the right circumstances, hell yea. And that's photography done at its finest: with intent.

Anyway, this is Abtenau, Austria. I think this country is super underrated, especially the small towns. I remember how we walked around it for hours without getting tired.

I'm an absolute sucker for mountains, woods and snow. So Austria has forever captured my heart. Can't wait to go back. taken in Austrian Alps by @louwlemmer

Dubrovnik, Croatia. 🇭🇷 No hook and no AI.

I really like natural frames and how they draw the eye into the subject. Though, I've become mindful not to over use the technique.

I am very self-critical by nature. It's a good and bad thing. The good part is being able to look at my own work from a different perspective, realising that my love for natural frames can become too obsessive. Resulting in missed opportunities. Photos that could have existed if it were not for the love of frames. Good thing to be aware of when I have a camera in hand.

Anyways. Dubrovnik is another missed opportunity of sorts. Less so because of the frames but because by the time @christine_lemmer and I arrived, we had already enjoyed almost two weeks and thousands of kilometres in Europe.

If I remember correctly, we spent more time watching The Office than exploring. We were a little homesick and tired of walking and driving. If only I could go back now and make the most of those few days. I'd very much enjoy walking and driving through a foreign world right now.

It's still all a net positive because I have a fail forward mindset. Go out there, live and capture. Reflect and learn. Go again, live and capture better. Repeat. taken in Dubrovnik - Old Town by @louwlemmer
