Ikigai — a new perspective. For the first time, Ikigai leaves the wall and stands freely on its own plinth. A shift in scale, presence and perspective — the same form, experienced differently. material : solid ash wood finish : bone Freestanding edition #LouwRoets #Ikigai #CollectibleDesign #Sculpture #ContemporaryArt by @louwroets
Ikigai — a study in purpose, balance and flow. From pencil sketch to client proposal to dreaming of casting in bronze with a naturally weathered green patina, created as a statement piece for collectors of contemporary sculpture. #ContemporarySculpture #BronzeSculpture #ArtCollectors #SculptureCollector #CollectibleArt by @louwroets

The Ikigai sculpture mimics the ebb and flow of life. The highs and the very lows teach us to persevere, to adapt, and to grow. Ikigai translates from Japanese as ‘your reason for being.’ In the natural, I simply cannot fathom doing anything other than sculpting. When I picked up a hammer and chisel for the first time, it just felt so right, so meant to be. Coupled with a profound curiosity for the natural world, to explore form and materials, I found my forever labor of love... sculpting! ⚫️ Email info@louwroets.co.za for more information or if you would like to commission a new piece. . . . . . . . . #sculpture #abstractart #freeform #sculpting #art #artgallery #modernart #architect #architecture #archilovers #stellenboscharchitects #interiordesign #interior #interiordesigner #interiordecor #healthylifestyle #balance #slowliving #slowlife #slowlivingmovement #louwroets #sandton #johannesburg #plettenbergbay #knysna #capetown #durban #louwroets by @louwroets

The Jordan Dining Chair — A study in refinement. Good design is rarely a finished conversation. It evolves through revisiting, refining, and questioning every detail. The Jordan Dining Chair has been revisited to bring it closer to the original vision: a more sculptural, fluid armrest with a refined curve that feels effortless in its form and function. The revised profile allows the chair to slide more easily beneath a dining table, while making sitting down and rising from the table more comfortable. The seat and backrest have also been reworked with comfort at the forefront. The seat combines a 24 mm high-density foam core for structural support with a 24 mm medium-density layer for added softness. The backrest has been doubled in thickness, using medium-density foam to create a more generous, comfortable form. Every adjustment is intentional. From the curvature of the armrest to the layers beneath the upholstery, the aim is to find that balance between sculptural expression, everyday functionality, and lasting comfort. The pursuit of better design is in the details. #CollectibleDesign #FurnitureDesign #Craftsmanship #ContemporaryDesign #Interiordesign by @louwroets

Meet the Maker: @louwroets South African maker Louw Roets works at the intersection of design and sculpture, where authenticity sits at the core of his practice. Each piece is shaped by hand and guided by instinct, carrying the imprint of time and process. In a world of mass production, his work reflects the enduring value of South African craftsmanship where material, maker and meaning remain closely connected. This is evident in his 𝗜𝗸𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗶 𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, which mirrors the ebb and flow of life. Highs and lows are translated into form, embodying resilience and growth. Ikigai, meaning “reason for being,” speaks to Roets’ own journey. “𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘐 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘱 𝘢 𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘭, 𝘪𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵,” he says. “𝘐 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦.” It is this clarity of purpose that defines his work.
