It’s not often that I feel an absolute joy while painting a piece and then full pride in its result. But this little painting did it for me over the past couple of days. Painting before school and after school and just simply enjoying the process.

This big slab rock holds the sun all day and is the last spot to feel the warmth before days end. When we paddle the river, we round this old pine looking long beyond its reaches at the last rapid known as Sea Monster. But this is one of my favourite views, looking upstream from the Sun Rock at this old pine.

This painting is based off of a photo that I took on a fire call looking for an overdue boat in Conroy’s Marsh. It was quickly approaching dusk and it was one of those stormy evenings in July when the light pierces through the clouds and everything is highlighted in deep beautiful tones.

We towed the boat and people back and this was my first time seeing the rolling hills of the Madawaska Highlands from the marsh.

This spring, I did a 10-week pottery lesson with @bumpyroadsstudio in Pembroke! If you are looking to try pottery, MJ is a wonderful teacher and was incredibly supportive and encouraging!
