2 DAYS BEFORE we got married, something tragic happened.
I remember getting THAT call in the morning. My wife and her partner at work had been calling me since 4:30 am. They’re cops, so I knew something was wrong. First thing my wife says, “I’m alright, I’m okay, I broke my leg, but I’m okay.” Instant panick had set in. I cancelled my clients for the day and rushed to the hospital.
I arrived, and the staff say is “you’re the wife??? It’s okay! We will have her out and get y’all married. That’s all she has been worried about is getting to that courthouse!” - my poor baby. They had to set her leg- which broke in three ways. I arrived right after the set, and it was the first time she admitted- that was the most painful moment of her life- and thank god I wasn’t in the room because she didn’t want me to hear how much pain she went through. I mean come on! How are you STILL THINKING ABOUT ME????
Nurse Daniel comes back in with the news. They had to set her leg AGAIN. My wife’s says “listen to me, I need to you to go walk all the way down the hallway, across the building. You CANNOT BEAR TO HEAR ME IN THIS MUCH PAIN. Please. I need you to leave, for me.” I think to myself, how is she STILL worried about me??!! So I replied, “we’re getting married in less than 48 hours and you think I won’t be here? Absolutely not. You must be hallucinating with these drugs.” She continued to plead with me, then the nurses told me I had to leave for the X-rays.
Hearing her go through that pain, while I’m stuck outside of that room. Placing my forehead against that door, hoping she can hear me telling her “I’m here for you.” Shaking, crying, she might be right. Idk if can go through this much pain-the worst I’ve ever felt. Helpless I stood outside with my ear now pressed against the door, hearing her wailing, my heart is ripping apart.

The doors opened, FIRST thing she says, “BABY ARE YOU OKAY?? I’M SO SORRY YOU HAD TO HEAR THAT.”

LIKE HOW IS SHE STILL THINKING ABOUT ME??? In that moment I realized, I’ll always be her number one. She will NEVER not love me. She will never desert me.
