I'm the hormonal hair and scalp care girl!

Hi, I'm Autumn, and somehow, in spite of or alongside (I'm still deciding) the many years I spent developing cuts and colors with culture, resilience, and even defiance. Here we are.

I can't help but look for ways to support the inevitable experiences that many of us will go through as our hormones shift and rearrange us from the inside out. Some will deal with hormonal shedding, some will become way more sensitive, and some will experience the unquenchable dryness that causes tight, itchy feelings.

I can't help it because I'm going through it all in real time and I know how bewildering it is to constantly question who this person is that you're becoming right this very moment. Someone who needs to be more mindful of the products they use, and how they invest their time.

If that's you, welcome. The link in my bio will guide you right to my chair. by @lovebird_studioaz

You ever just feel batshit crazy and get totally validated about it? Because I did. Learning I'm in menopause was bewildering. I haven't fully accepted it yet tbh. All I know is I'm not the same person I was a few months ago. Was something stolen from me? Was I gifted this enormous prize? I think maybe yes, on both accounts. I feel like I won a lottery ticket that admits me into this strange universe in which everything is a little more fuzzy, undefined, and therefore more mailiable? I'm no longer reproductive, but does that give me space to create something. . . different? Am I recreating my own self? I honestly dont know. I only got a couple of years in perimenopause. I was still just learning to navigate that. Idk what happens from here, but um, if you have insight please share it. People in their late 30s and 40s are actually desperate for your guidance. by @lovebird_studioaz

I started out wanting to show the world that there is more to beauty than what is forced on us. I wanted to do that through color and creativity.

Uncontrollable eczema forced me to redefine my process. Shifting towards low-tox, organic products helped me manage what was happening to my body while building my career in the way that made the most sense for me at the time.

There are 2 stories happening here. The one you see, an ambitious woman creating a career that pushes back against toxic standards in an industry that should be centered around making people feel better, but often preys on our deepest insecurities.

There's also the story that I have kept close to my chest. The one about my health. The one that simultaneously held me back, but also shaped my career. The one that kept me searching for answers and better solutions.

The biggest difference between then and now is experience. Experience made me more intentional and more deeply rooted in my values.

In 2008 I wanted to challenge the idea of beauty by pushing different images, and I still believe in that. I also believe in challenging the way beauty makes us feel. taken in Tempe, Arizona by @lovebird_studioaz

Happy Saturday ☀️

I've been over here churning out some cute cuts and making scalps happy.

I'm adjusting to new doses of HRT and because hormones affect histamine levels, keeping my diet pretty tight.

Getting fresh air with the doggies and plenty of exercise too 💪

Trying to stay balanced, I've quietly scaled my schedule back a little this month to get myself right before the crazy holiday schedule ramps up.

Start booking those holiday appointments now, I opened my schedule for the remainder of the year so that anyone who wants to plan ahead can do that. Booking link is in my bio. by @lovebird_studioaz

@ochre.us gifted me their sensitive skin trio to try, so I brought @mira3v3 into the studio for a little scalp facial moment. 🤍

We both have fine hair that's on th oily side, and you already know my skin is very sensitive so finding products that feel good on the scalp without weighing hair down is always a win.

We used Ochre’s shampoo, conditioner, and leave in cream, all made without fragrance or the harsher ingredients that can be irritating for sensitive skin. The result was fresh, clean hair and a happy scalp, with a soft, touchable, weightless feel.

Sound off if you're curious about trying Ochre also. I have a handful of samples to share, first come first serve. by @lovebird_studioaz

I got some news yesterday that rocked my little socks.

I wasn't doing anything with my ovaries, but learning they are now failing and I'm in menopause has shaken me.

I thought perimenopause radicalized me, but those couple of years were just the training wheels.

I watched too many women waste away without talking about what was happening to their minds and bodies, and just so you know, that won't be me.

I was forced out of my cocoon and now it's everyone's problem. Stick around if you want to hear the ramblings of a mid 40s menopausal maniac. It should be fun. by @lovebird_studioaz

There is a heaviness in hiding.

I'll be honest, I spent a long time only showing up as a fraction of myself, holding so much back. It's been wearing me down to constantly find ways to shrink.

I'm starting to give myself room to show up, to feel a little exposed, and expand a bit.

Cutting my bangs shorter and shorter has been a small way to avoid hiding. It may not be the bravest move, but it's a move, and it's a fun way to express how I've been feeling lately.

There's something about this liminal space. The freedom of letting go of the past but being stuck in between and waiting to become. . . more?

Is your hair reflecting where you're at right now? Or is this one more thing I overthink? by @lovebird_studioaz

If your sound is on you'll hear some big words, and lots of technical details about why I love Superwater and what it does.

There's honestly so much more I could say about it, but you should just try it for yourself to find out how amazing it is.

Share this with someone who hasn't tried Superwater yet. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments. DM me if you want the link to order one or need to stop by to pick some up. by @lovebird_studioaz

I started moving towards cleaner products in 2011 because my body was telling me that something about what I had been using wasn't working for me. Even though I didn't yet have an accurate diagnosis, I listened.

15 years later I understand a lot more about what my body was trying to say, and everything I learned points back to the same thing.

Keep it clean. Stop expecting different results from the same old shit.

Your hair isn't the problem! The formula is.

If you could scrub 1 beauty myth off the face of the planet, what would it be?

You don't have to perform.

If setting foot in a salon makes you anxious.
If you cut your own bangs.
If your hair is oily even though you just washed it.
I got you.

If your inspo pics are perfectly styled and you know you're not touching a hot tool, we'll find what's real for your routine.

Just come as you are.
That's enough ❤️

And if you're a stylist, you don't have to perform either.
You don't have to keep showing up in ways that drain you.
You don't have to work with products that make you feel crappy.
You can take a break. A real one. Stting. Eating.
You can skip services that harm your health.

No one is giving you permission. Just take it.
You are enough ❤️ taken in Tempe, Arizona by @lovebird_studioaz
