“A republic, if you can keep it.” — said right here in this city, 250 years ago. That wasn’t a cute tagline. It was a warning.

We’re celebrating the Semiquincentennial as Philadelphians, which means we know the full story — the promise and the failures, the fights that were won and the ones still happening. Democracy has always been a project, not a given. It’s been imperfect from day one, and right now it needs people who aren’t willing to look away.

250 years ago, this city said democracy means everybody gets a seat at the table. Pluralism. Diversity. Inclusion. Not optional extras — the whole point. Celebrate *that* American with us on July 4th.❤️🍻🇺🇸

When we see anti-democratic values creeping into our government and our society right now? We’re not gonna pretend we don’t notice. We celebrate America’s 250th and we express our anger at what’s happening. We can be honest about how far we’ve fallen short of those values and still believe they’re worth fighting for.
