๐ŸŒœTEN BEFORE THE END๐ŸŽ†

I would just like to state for the record that I am in fact still active, I am just very busy and getting more stressed with every day that passes. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Anyway, hi! I'm sorry for my absence and the lack of posting, but I am back now! Hopefully I'll be able to get into some semblance of a schedule now that I'm finally adjusting to being back at uni. As you can see on the post, my life has been taken over by my dissertation, and that will be the case until next April at least. But it's going well! I'm glad I chose the two texts I did, because they'll make it MUCH easier to do.

There's also some shameless promotion for Leeanne Slade and Claire Mackay on there, because I cannot WAIT to read their books, and feel that they do not get the attention they deserve, so please do check them out! As for Far From The Madding Crowd, I'm starting to feel that it'll be a miracle if I get to that book before 2027 starts! ๐Ÿ˜†

โœจ Have you got any plans for this week?

๐Ÿ’ซ Just uni! I'm also watching Pretty Little Liars for the first time right now and I LOVE it. Every time I'm not doing something (see: trying to cram in The Black House for my class this week) I can be found watching it. I am HOOKED. by @lovednonebutyou

And once again, my schedule is still bad. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I'm so sorry, it's been chaos! I'm back at uni and I had a busy, busy weekend. I was at a birthday party for a girl I grew up with, and man, I had so much fun. There was an entire pavlova table, so naturally I had two pieces because I am a pudding fiend. When I haven't been partying or trying to catch up on sleep, I've been cramming The Murder of Roger Ackroyd for uni, so you guys will hopefully be getting a review for that soon!

On the subject of my Roger Ackroyd audiobook, THESE audiobooks are all incredible, and I want to make the time to reread the latter two as soon as possible because they changed my life in the best way. Unfortunately I'm so busy with uni though that it won't happen for a while, but I WILL make time, I'm determined. Anyway, I hope you're all doing well!

โœจ If you listen to audiobooks, do you have a favourite narrator?

๐Ÿ’ซ Honestly, I'm going to have to say the late, great Prunella Scales. Her narration of Cranford was LIFE CHANGING. Also, Nanny McPhee herself, Emma Thompson. Her narration of Emma is perfection and I love it. ๐Ÿ˜Œ by @lovednonebutyou

๐ŸŒŒDIFFERENT TYPES OF FIVE STAR RATINGS๐ŸŒ

Once again, my posting schedule has gone out the window. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I've been so busy and it's not going to change because I'm back at uni next week (FINALLY). But I'm excited!

As for this post, I've seen this idea floating around, so I wanted to try it myself with the usual favourites. I need to read more books. ๐Ÿคฃ Anyway, I hope you're all doing well!

โœจ Are you listening to any good music right now?

๐Ÿ’ซ I'm currently looping the Broadway soundtrack of The Little Mermaid, since my theatre group is doing it, and wow it's AMAZING. I'm so excited to begin rehearsals! ๐Ÿ˜† by @lovednonebutyou

๐Ÿ’œWHAT'S WRONG WITH ME TREND๐Ÿฉท

Aaaaand once again, my posting schedule has gone out the window. Doh. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ I am going to try and get better, especially since I managed to batch make some posts on Canva (me? Batch making posts? It's REVOLUTIONARY for me). I loved You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, maybe not as much as Olivia's first two, but I still enjoyed it.

As for the books on the second slide, if you haven't heard me talk about The Places I've Cried in Public, then let me just say: Holly Bourne is a genius, and I shall be seeing her speak at Edinburgh Book Festival this weekend and I am not prepared!!!!!!! It's going to be SO GOOD.

โœจ Have you got anything you're looking forward to this weekend?

๐Ÿ’ซ Like I said, Edinburgh Book Festival, but also seeing my friends down there. ๐Ÿฅน And I'll get to read on public transport which I LOVE doing. So whatever you're doing, have a good rest of your week! ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป by @lovednonebutyou

Wow, my posting schedule is non-existent. ๐Ÿ˜ญ On the bright side, I'm BACK. August is shaping up to be quite busy, because I've got work and university preparation to do, particularly for my dissertation, but at least I'll have these books YAY. I'm very excited for Far From The Madding Crowd. I saw the film with Carey Mulligan a few years ago and loved it, and I got a DVD of the miniseries with Nathaniel Parker a couple of months ago, so now I am aiming to continue my goal of reading the book of an adaptation before seeing said adaptation. ๐Ÿ˜Œ

โœจ Have you got any weekend plans?

๐Ÿ’ซ Reading and working, mostly! But I'm starting the amazing webseries Emma Approved today and I am SO excited. ๐Ÿ˜† by @lovednonebutyou

โš“REVIEW: A FIRE IN THEIR HEARTS๐ŸŒŠ

If you know me, you'll know that I LOVE what Philip Paris writes. A Fire in The Hearts is only the second book of his that I've read, but it was INCREDIBLE. It's about the Scottish Covenanters, who were persecuted by King James VI and then his son King Charles I because they believed that Jesus was the head of the church, and not the monarch. I only knew bits and pieces about Covenanter history, but A Fire in Their Hearts gave me a much deeper understanding of it. It's obvious that Paris did his research, especially regarding the parts on the slave plantation. It devastated me, though. I swear I cried every time I opened it.

Overall, I do recommend this book, but it is an extremely heavy read and may be triggering for some people. I'm hesitant to give out spoilers, but if you want the trigger warnings I put on my review on Storygraph, please leave a comment and I can DM them to you. ๐Ÿ’™ by @lovednonebutyou

I'm finally back!

I'm so sorry I haven't posted in so long, it's been mad between work and other things, but I'm here now.

It was my birthday on the 6th, so naturally that meant BOOKS. Two of them were bought by me, but four came from other sources YAY. However, because there are so many of them, this now means that I am officially on a book buying ban for the rest of the year. We'll see how long that lasts. ๐Ÿ˜‚

So many of these books are books that I've been wanting to read for ages, because I've either heard about them on here or because they're books that speak to a part of me that I consider to be important. I'm trying to figure out which one I'm most excited for, but honestly, it's all of them. ๐Ÿ˜†

โœจ Have you got a summer read you're looking forward to?

๐Ÿ’ซ I'm about to restart Emma by Jane Austen for dissertation reasons and I am HYPED. I adore that book so much and I miss it when I'm not reading it. It's going to be so good ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฉท by @lovednonebutyou

Me? Posting for the first time in almost two weeks? Of course!

Today felt like a good day to talk about Sense and Sensibility since the trailer for the new adaptation was released earlier this week! The 1995 adaptation (seen at the bottom of the stack) was my gateway not only into period dramas, but also into Jane Austen and later into classics. I'm so happy we're getting another adaptation for me to add to the stack, I just hope it does the book proud. ๐Ÿ˜† I'm planning on rewatching the 2008 adaptation (seen at the top of the stack) as soon as possible. It's AMAZING, and is a miniseries so it has more time to develop the characters and the story which makes me so happy. Plus it has Dan Stevens which is an automatic 10/10 casting choice from me. What a book it is. What a change it's made to my life. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

โœจ Do you have a film that you consider to be your gateway into a certain genre?

๐Ÿ’ซ I've already talked about Sense & Sensibility, but another would be You've Got Mail. I must've been in my early teens when I watched it, and it was definitely my gateway into romcoms. Now I am OBSESSED with them. by @lovednonebutyou

๐Ÿš‚REVIEW: NORTH AND SOUTH๐Ÿ‡

Years and years ago, when I was in my early teens, I found the 2004 miniseries of North & South on Netflix. Richard Armitage and Daniela Denby-Ashe were INCREDIBLE as John Thornton and Margaret Hale, and for years I always meant to read the book, but I never got around to it until very recently. Technically I listened to it as an audiobook, but I found that reading the book at the same time when I wasn't outside helped immensely and oh boy is it a good one. Everything about this book is perfect: the vibes, the drama... it feels like gossip in a novel and I was eating it all UP.

Hands down my favourite part of this book is John and Margaret's relationship arc. They go through so many ups and downs over the course of the novel, and it makes their ending all the more sweeter when it does eventually come because they deserve it more than anything, and they truly deserve each other in the most beautiful way. What makes it absolutely HILARIOUS though is that everyone knows how they both feel except them, so it can get frustrating at times. I love them dearly. ๐Ÿค

โœจ Do you have a favourite adaptation of a classic novel?

๐Ÿ’ซ If we're talking films, hands down the 2019 film version of Little Women. I saw it in the cinema and it changed my liiiiiife. As for TV versions, it would have to be the 2009 version of Emma. Everyone is characterised so perfectly, particularly Emma, Mr Knightley and Mr Woodhouse. I'm planning on rewatching it soon because I want to do my uni dissertation on the novel and I am SO excited. ๐Ÿฉท by @lovednonebutyou

๐ŸŒŠOTHER BOOKS I ACQUIRED IN APRIL๐ŸŒฟ

Happy First Friday In June to all who celebrate! It's lovely weather here in Scotland today and I hope it's the same for all of you.

The books in this reel are ones that I got in April that weren't from London, and there are quite a lot of them. ๐Ÿ˜† I'm excited for all of them, but especially The Familiars and Yellow Wife. The Familiars was acquired as a quiz prize, and I got Yellow Wife from the amazing @afroribooks, so if you have time I would recommend you have a look at their website! They're a Black-owned bookshop with various genres, all written by black authors. ๐Ÿ’›

โœจ What's a book on your TBR you're looking forward to reading?

๐Ÿ’ซ Like I said, Yellow Wife. I found it when I was in London but didn't buy it because I knew I had no space, so when I found it on Afrori's website, I knew I HAD to buy it. I'm so excited for it. ๐Ÿ’› by @lovednonebutyou

๐ŸLAST, NOW, NEXT๐Ÿž

I'm a bit late in posting this week but I was spending Friday and Saturday helping out with a charity event, plus I had Maisie Peters's new album to listen to! I love it so much. As for what I'm reading, I'm focusing on North and South right now because I want to get it done as soon as possible so I can start a buddy read of The Testaments with a couple of friends. I'm so excited. I loved The Handmaid's Tale so I'm very intrigued to see what The Testaments is like. And I'm hyped for Howl's Moving Castle, because then I won't feel guilty for not having read the book when I eventually watch the movie. ๐Ÿ˜†

โœจ Can you watch a film without having read the book first?

๐Ÿ’ซ I used to be able to do that, but I'm getting MUCH stricter with myself. The only times I'm less strict is when it comes to classics, particularly Shakespeare. I've found that modern adaptations of his plays (see: Gnomeo and Juliet) have made it much easier for me to understand the plot! ๐Ÿ˜† by @lovednonebutyou

๐Ÿ‘‘BOOKS I BOUGHT IN LONDON (and Edinburgh)๐Ÿซ–

I'm finally back! I was in London last month, and went to so many museums and so many bookshops and it was so much fun. I got to see so many different areas of London, and got a LOT of inspiration for my book.

So many of the books in this pile are ones I've been wanting for a while, particularly Do You Dream of Terra-Two? and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (shout-out to my friend for pointing that one out to me. You know who you are ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿฉท). Others, such as The Song of Achilles and The Japanese Lover, are ones that I've heard of but never really looked at before. Hopefully I'll finally manage to read The Iliad in preparation for The Song of Achilles! ๐Ÿ˜† And as for Ordinary Saints, well, that was one that I liked the look of and impulsively thought "I should get that. I'm soooooo excited to read it. The same goes for American Psycho, except that was bought in Edinburgh on my way to London. ๐Ÿ˜†

โœจ If you've ever been to London, what was your favourite thing to do there?

๐Ÿ’ซ Honestly, for me it's a draw between going to the Natural History Museum and the Old Naval War College. Both were absolutely fascinating in their own ways and I adored them. Of course, I can't forget the bookshops! Unfortunately I didn't make it to Brick Lane Bookshop (IYKYK) but I'll make it there one day. ๐Ÿ’š by @lovednonebutyou
