A closer look at Purbeck Grub at York Minster.

It’s the detail within the stone that makes Purbeck Grub so distinctive. Look closely at these copings and you can see the natural shell fossils running throughout the surface – evidence of the stone’s geological history, formed millions of years ago.

The fossil-rich character, combined with the natural variation in colour and texture, means no two pieces are ever quite the same.

Beautifully shaped and finished, these copings are a great example of how the natural characteristics of Purbeck stone become part of the finished architecture.

British stone has shaped our buildings for centuries, and each stone brings its own colour, texture and character to a project.

We work with Hartham Park Bath Stone, Chicksgrove Stone, Portland Stone, Hurdcott Greenstone, Purbeck Stone and Forest Pennant Sandstone to produce external masonry for new build, restoration and conservation projects across the UK.

From ashlar, window surrounds and cills to columns, arches, quoins and more detailed architectural stonework, our teams understand how each stone cuts, works and weathers.

With our own masonry facilities and experienced stonemasons, we can work from drawings and schedules through to the finished pieces, combining modern processing with traditional masonry skills.
