Discover Rigora 🚙💙🤖💎

Rigora is a timeless typeface rooted in rational modernism. Its design draws from the iconic neo-grotesque genre of the second half of the 20th century, and distinguished by subtle humanist undertones. Grounded in meticulous studies, comparative analyses, and firsthand examination of original materials from the Museum für Gestaltung in Zürich, Rigora seeks to preserve the essential qualities of its source while extending its possibilities. Circular forms were carefully refined to retain the vintage warmth of the original design, while reduced contrast in the Regular weights reinforces a clear, monolinear texture. The typeface expands on this foundation through alternate characters, titling variants, and newly designed glyphs that broaden its functional range without compromising its heritage.

Loose spacing enhances legibility at small sizes, while aligned open terminals (C, G, S, 2, 3…) reinforce a consistent visual rhythm throughout the character set. Tubular endings on letters (f, j, t…) reference industrial design language, while wide diagonal apertures (A, N, M…) introduce a sharper, more forward-looking tone. Contextual alternates — including a distinct serif capital I — improve readability and reduce ambiguity, while characteristic glyphs (G, R, Q…) preserve the identity of the original model. Rigora also features a custom ligature system spanning initial, medial, and final forms like an oriental writing system. Inspired by transport and logistics identities, these ligatures metaphorically embed the road within the letter connections themselves, evoking continuity, motion, and infrastructural flow. by @lovercasetypefaces

What does it take to bring a typeface from scratch to distribution?

It’s less a straight road than a long journey through an entire industrial chain — building tools, processes, and a workflow of your own. We’ve been designing typefaces for over 10 years. We started with FontLab, moved to Glyphs, then switched to RoboFont. Over time, we’ve learned that, whatever digital tool you use, a pen is still a pen: no software will make a better design than another. That said, preferences naturally evolve with experience, habits, and the specific needs of each project. While drawing remains at the heart of our practice, technology plays an equally important role in bringing a typeface to its highest level of quality and making it work across different environments. For example, we rely on open-source libraries and command-line tools to build and generate our fonts…Here’s a small, non-exhaustive glimpse into what happens behind the scenes, and a rough outline of the process below:

• Concept & brainstorming
• Hand-drawn sketches
• Initial alphabet drafts
• Family development
• Variable axis exploration
• Fine-tuning
• Proofing
• Font development
• Design decisions & reviews
• Stylistic sets definition
• OpenType features
• Text proofing
• Quality assurance
• Font information & metadata
• Kerning
• Spacing review
• Character proofing
• Mastering
• Designspace setup
• Font generation
• Testing & trials
• Gathering references & sources
• Graphic design conception
• Font description
• Web type tester content
• Website backend & uploads
• Communication

And that’s only part of it. A typeface may start with a sketch, but getting it ready for distribution means navigating a whole ecosystem of design, development, testing, tools, and communication. The drawing is just the beginning… by @lovercasetypefaces

Discover Alegoria,

A classic typeface family inspired by Christoffel Van Dijck’s lost romans. Furthermore it is a mannerist mashup of various references from the XVIIe century, embodying a transitional style. Both upright and italic styles contain alternative letterform swashes. Additionally, the uppercase accents are notably flat, drawn for tightly composed headings – while lowercase accents are considerably high and vertical – according to the old style genre.
Some letterforms echoes typographic mistakes of the early lead-based printing, where intentional disproportions (Z, z, S, s…) and inverted metal type (stylistic set 01) become distinctive features. Every style contain some serifs alternative glyphs (E, F, T…) which subtly blurs the origin of a precise historical source. Last but not least, Alegoria’s stroke ratio exhibits a delicate chiaroscuro contrast as if it were a Rembrandt painting. The overall letter shapes are sprinkled with baroque allusions and enigmatic dutch qualities ! by @lovercasetypefaces

Because social medias are not only about promoting products for commercial purposes… it’s also about sharing the things that bring us together, the things we simply love to see !

Here’s a little selection from a collection of Camembert box stickers, which I found at a flea market in Brittany! The French word for such practice is tyrosémiophilie. It comes from the greek tyros which means cheese 🧀

There’s such a wonderful variety of graphic styles and themes in these designs, which I’ve loosely grouped into a few broad categories: typography; animals (cows, pheasants, lions, butterflies…); medieval imagery (monks, kings, crowns, scrolls, coats of arms); places (castles, estates, meadows, mills, bridges…); and people (connoisseurs, children, grandpas and grandmas, farm women…). by @lovercasetypefaces

Discover Emperia !

It all started from a simple question. “What would Trajan lowercase look like?” As Latin is a bicameral script that combines different letterforms, contemporary typefaces mainly relies on compromising the monumental structure of uppercase in the design process. However, Emperia takes a counterintuitive approach. It is a historical reinterpretation of the Antique genre. Rather than a revival, it is a calligraphic fiction of history, where the construction of the minuscule is grounded in the principles of Roman capitals. With the brush as its underlying tool, the typeface family strives to establish a closer relationship between uppercase and lowercase alphabets. By reuniting these two models in harmony, it successfully rewrites history from a fresh perspective ! by @lovercasetypefaces
