POSTS STORIES REELS

Created by filmmaker Sam Raimi, the Evil Dead franchise has grown into a horror phenomenon.

For Evil Dead Burn, the sixth feature-film installment, director Sébastien Vaniček and DP Philip Lozano took on the monumental task of treading new ground while paying homage to the foundation laid by Raimi and directors Fede Álvarez and Lee Cronin.

For the very first time, Lozano leaned on the Sony VENICE 2, RIALTO 2, and RIALTO Mini to capture the nuances of fire and the violent, visceral, and handheld style of Vaniček’s creative direction.

Visit our stories and the link in our bio for our full interview with Lozano for a deep dive on how Evil Dead Burn was made.

“I’m not crazy.”

MadS (2024)

I watched MadS for the third time over the weekend, and I have so many thoughts and so much I want to say BUT I’m reluctant to do so in case you haven’t already seen it’s furious, psychedelic glory. I’ll give a mini taster below but I implore you to go in as blind as possible. Also don’t do what I did and watch it while battling a roaring fever – makes for a very scary watch!

Unfolding over the course of an 89 minute long one-shot take (yes really!!) – MadS is written and directed by David Moreau and follows Romain (@milton_riche), a teenager who comes across an injured, distressed woman on the side of the road after leaving his dealers house and trying his new gear for an upcoming party. Horrific events begin to unfold beyond his wildest nightmares – is it all a bad trip or is it very real? The worst is yet to come.

The creative, technical and logistical scope it must have taken to pull off this movie is well beyond my understanding. It’s masterful. Shot by my pal @lozanophilip and his incredible team – MadS is a stunning sight to behold. My only ‘issue’ with the film is that I was getting distracted with how they pulled the shoot off so seamlessly, I was too busy trying to figure it all out. The plot is simple enough – the magic is everything and everywhere else – magic craftsmanship in its every seam. Gorgeous visuals (Phillip’s work paired with @fabien_pascal_color is a match made in heaven!), compelling performances, stunning camera work and a whopper soundtrack – what’s not to love. Particular kudos has to go to Laurie Pavy, whose scene stealing turn had catapulted her into one of my top horror performances of all time. MadS needs to be seen to be believed.
