Yesterday morning, Wendy Rogers, FAIA stood at #AIA25 to receive the 2025 AIA Architecture Firm Award on behalf of the more than 100 LPAers who traveled to Boston for the moment, and hundreds more in Austin, Dallas, Irvine, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Diego and San Jose. “Eliminating carbon must unite us and align our disciplines in a common cause.” she told the convention center crowd. “The task is too big to tackle alone.”

After the pandemic, the staff of @goodman.group advocated for virtual work. A new headquarters developed through a research-driven design process changed their minds.

Through on-site observation, surveys, focus groups and interviews, LPA researchers gathered input about employees’ diverse habits and preferences. The result: an office separated into dispersed “neighborhoods” that support different working styles, from private and quiet to activated and collaborative, while keeping the space cohesive and interconnected.

The @oc_fair opens today! 🎟️🌭🍦🥤🎡

This beloved Orange County celebration dates back to the late 1800s, so when Fair officials partnered with LPA to expand their central administration building, that rich history was a perfect jumping-off point. A key design element is the iconic gable roof, paying homage to the Fair’s agrarian past. Built from cross-laminated timber (CLT), the roof provides a warm, clean look while reducing embodied carbon and material consumption.

This addition now serves as the campus’ bright, inviting “town square,” tied unmistakably to the Fair’s past while looking toward the future.

Did you know Switzerland’s national team, facing off against Argentina tonight, has spent the World Cup training on LPA-designed fields at San Diego Jewish Academy? 🇨🇭⚽

The school’s pitch is considered among the best, even named the nation’s top high school field by the Sports Turf Managers Association. The U.S. men’s and women’s national teams have trained at this world-class facility, as have Chile and Costa Rica. Germany’s Borussia Dortmund soccer club held its preseason camp at San Diego Jewish Academy back in 2023, so when the Swiss starting goalkeeper Gregor Kobel — who plays for Borussia Dortmund — came for the World Cup, he already knew the pitch like the back of his glove.

The new Kinesiology & Athletics Complex for @losmedanoscollege in Pittsburgh, Calif., was designed to feel welcoming to all, not just athletes. Putting programs on display and improving transparency attracts students and removes barriers to participation, creating a space that fosters a sense of belonging.

A complex site shaped the design of a net zero energy gym at Malibu Middle School for @smmusd_official.

The LPA team studied the movement of students across the campus — which is set against a nearly 20-foot grade change — to examine different strategies for incorporating the building. The result was a sustainable gym that greatly enhances student life.

Name another workplace where you can skate from the half-pipe to the boardroom. 🛹

@volcom’s LPA-designed Southern California corporate headquarters is centered around an internal “street” connecting office and meeting areas to a company store, showrooms and a 3,500-square-foot indoor skate park that converts into an exhibition space.

The vibe is handcrafted and utilitarian, balancing eye-popping work from staff artists with the raw nature of an existing 90,000-square-foot warehouse. Polished concrete floors lend not only a sleek aesthetic but also a smooth surface for skating and biking. by @lpainc

LPA received a Special Mention in this year’s @architizer A+ Awards for a project that spotlights the power of integrated design while addressing housing and healthcare inequities in San Diego.

Developed with @familyhealthcenterssd, El Cerrito Permanent Supportive Housing is a 172-unit mixed-use development that provides affordable residences for healthcare workers and low-income individuals, and permanent supportive units for San Diegans transitioning out of homelessness.
