My Dearest Wife Edna Richardson and Children,

I want to take this opportunity to apologize in advance for the man I am about to become.

As the 2026 NFL season approaches, I recognize that there will be moments when I am physically present in our home, but emotionally unavailable.

You may see me sitting on the couch staring intensely at my phone. You may speak directly to me and receive a response such as, “Uh-huh,” “That’s crazy,” or “Give me one second,” even though I have absolutely no idea what you just said.

Please understand that this is not because I don’t love you.

It is because somebody just got hurt on my fantasy team.

I also want to apologize for the next few days specifically. I have fantasy drafts Sunday and Tuesday. These are important events that require preparation, research, mock drafts, injury reports, depth-chart analysis, and several hours of questioning why another grown man took the player I wanted three picks before me.

Once the season begins, Sundays will become increasingly difficult.

There will also be Thursday Night Football.

Monday Night Football.

The occasional Saturday game.

Fantasy waiver wires.

Trade offers.

Injury reports.

And, regrettably, NFL sports betting.

There may be moments when I appear distracted during important family conversations because I am mentally calculating whether a running back needs 14 more receiving yards.

There may also be moments when I suddenly celebrate for reasons that make absolutely no sense to anyone else in the house.

I understand that being a husband and father means being emotionally available, supportive, attentive, and present.

I fully intend to return to those responsibilities.

In February.

Until then, please know that I love each of you deeply, and any temporary decline in my attention should not be interpreted as a decline in my love.

It is simply football season.

Thank you in advance for your patience, understanding, and sacrifice during this difficult time.
