TW: Sexual assault

This is probably one of the most personal things I will ever share, but it’s something I feel incredibly strongly about.

I am a survivor of sexual assault, and after finding the courage to report what happened to me, I never imagined I would be left fighting for something as basic as the protection of footage of my own assault.

During the police investigation, a video of my assault was found on the phone of the person I reported. Despite this, no charges were brought, and his phone was returned to him without the footage being deleted.

Knowing that my rapist/someone could have access to a video of one of the most traumatic experiences of my life is something I struggle to put into words.

I cannot change what happened to me, or the outcome of my case. However, I can try to make sure that other survivors are better protected in the future.

That’s why I’ve started a petition calling on the UK Government to introduce stronger laws around the handling and permanent deletion of intimate images and videos held as evidence in sexual assault investigations.

I’m asking for your support. Whether you know me personally or have simply come across this post, I would be incredibly grateful if you could take a moment to sign my petition and share it.

Every signature matters, and every share helps this reach someone who might otherwise never hear about it.

I can’t change my past, but I’m determined to fight for a better future for other survivors.

💕 Petition link in my bio.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. It means more than you know. taken in Norwich, Norfolk by @lrnnwby
