Meet Marie Van Brittan Brown, the visionary whose 1966 invention paved the way for every smart doorbell and security camera we use today!

Living in a high-crime area, she created the first closed-circuit television (CCTV) security system for her apartment. Her system included:

A sliding camera to view people at different heights.
Two-way talk to communicate with visitors.
A crucial emergency button to instantly alert the police.
Her 1969 patent (U.S. Patent 3,482,037) has inspired over 32 subsequent patents! Talk about a blueprint for modern home security. Next time you check your doorbell cam, remember this pioneer! 💡

NSBE NEWS: 🤩Tyron Gray, Terence Bazzell, and Aaliyah Tasby made history as the first official LSUS NSBE chapter members to attend the National Society of Black Engineers Annual Convention March 5-March 9. They proudly represented LSUS on a national stage for the very first time. As a newly formed organization, the chapter faced major challenges, especially with limited access to funding. But that didn’t stop them. Fueled by determination and vision, the team took a 21-hour train ride to Chicago, Illinois, and made the most of every opportunity. The convention was more than just a moment of representation and pride. It was life-changing. Aaliyah Tasby received a full-time job offer at the event, showing what’s possible when students choose to show up for themselves and their future. Tasby also ran into Anthony Harris, one of the founders of NSBE (One of the Chicago Six). This is our first, but definitely not the last…we are looking forward to being able to send our members to Baltimore, MD next year for the 2026 NSBE convention. Major thanks to @r5nsbe for all of the support given to us during the year! Stay Tuned for more🔥#nsbe #lsus #chicago #region5 #regionV taken in Chicago, Illinois by @lsusnsbe
