I had a great time helping open the Houston Rodeo with my friend and fellow Houstonian, actor Dennis Quaid on Tuesday evening. He is in town to help promote Texas as the new movie Capital of the World. I have worked with Taylor Sheridan, Matthew McConaughey, and other Texans on this project to promote Texas values, not Hollywood ones. I wore one of my favorite vests, which John Wayne wore in the movie Rio Bravo, to celebrate the occasions. Before her performance that evening, we visited with the star of the night, @Reba McEntire, to talk about moving her television and movie production to Texas. ��

@RodeoHouston has raised over $600 million for students and education and continues to make a massive difference in the lives of Texans and our future generations. God bless Texas, and God bless the Rodeo! #txlege by @ltgovtx

I always look forward to meeting with students from Texas. Today, I had the opportunity to give a brief civics lesson to the Student Senate from the Presbyterian School of Houston at the Capitol. Children are our future, and it is so important to get them interested in civics and to get involved within their communities. #txlege by @ltgovtx

Yesterday, we honored former NCAA All-American swimmer @RileyGBarker on the Texas Senate floor for her dedication to protecting women and girls in sports, which has been a significant priority for me since 2017.

In that year, I recognized the need for legislation like SB 6, authored by Senator Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham. This bill aimed to ensure women and girls have privacy and safety in their restrooms, showers, and locker rooms. The Senate passed it, but unfortunately, it did not make it through the House.

In 2021, we introduced SB 3, the Fair Sports for Women and Girls Act, by Senator Charles Perry, R-Lubbock. This common-sense legislation ensured boys would not be allowed to compete against girls in individual and team sports or qualify for sports scholarships.

In 2023, SB 15, Protecting Women's College Sports, was introduced by Senator Mayes Middleton, R-Galveston, to prohibit men from participating in women's college sports in Texas.

Riley Gaines Barker has visited the Capitol in the past to advocate for this issue and has been a champion for women's sports and rights.

Women have been fighting for equality in sports for decades, achieving tremendous success along the way. We must continue to protect that progress and not allow it to be torn down. #txlege by @ltgovtx

Today, I spoke at the TPPF Texas Policy Summit to discuss the BIG ideas the Texas Senate has been championing this session.

In the first four weeks of the session, we have already passed a huge Bail Reform Package, School Choice, and legislation that would increase the Homestead Exemption from $100,000 to $140,000 ($150,000 for seniors) out of the Texas Senate. We still have much more to accomplish and will continue to work hard and pass the conservative legislation that continues to make Texas the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

Texas continues to lead the way and will continue to pass the conservative legislation Texans elected us for.

The world needs a strong America, and America needs a strong Texas. #txlege by @ltgovtx

On Wednesday, we recognized the Texas Police Chiefs Association on the Senate Floor. I met with a few leaders and gave them a tour of the Lt. Governor’s office. Thank you to our incredible law enforcement officers for their dedication, sacrifice, and service to our communities. In 2017, I started a new tradition of having a church service for Senators on the last Sunday in session, the only week we work on Sunday. We disagree on issues from time to time in our own party and across party lines, but many of us come together for worship and song on this last Sunday. After the service, we come on the floor holding hands to say the Lord's Prayer. It's one of my favorite days of the 140-day session. I work alongside a lot of really good people, both Senators and staff. It's a blessing. #txlege by @ltgovtx

On Tuesday at the Capitol, we welcomed a special guest from across the pond, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. He was here to learn more about the Lone Star State’s entrepreneurial spirit and our booming economy. No income tax, low cost of living and conservative pro-business policies make Texas an economic powerhouse and a prime location for business. #txlege by @ltgovtx
